Really great work on Gossip so far, @@Mike Dilger ☑️. I just synced my fork of the Gossip client and installed the latest on master locally. Works fantastic! Great work, Mike, seriously. Also, to address the concern of my having too many relays might be a DDoS of the network, at the slightest hint that I can't connect to a relay, I make sure to remove it. Culling dead relays dramatically improves client performance, I've found.

I've tried to explain this before, but it's hard to explain. This theory I call, the Three Eras of Bitcoin Mining. Bitcoin mining goes wherever energy is cheapest. First they gathered in China, then later in Texas and North America. Terrestrial Mining was the First Era of Bitcoin Mining. It will make sense to offworld all heavy industry; anything made of aluminum or silicon can be made in situ on the moon. Elements less chemically abundant within Lunar regolith will be provided to the moon via asteroid mining. And commodities trade and finished goods will likely be transported via electrically powered, equatorial mass driver, and either aerobraking or elevators of some kind for downmass. For Bitcoin miners, heat rejection deep into the Lunar core will act as a fantastic heat sink for a very long time. Lunar Mining will be the Second Era of Bitcoin Mining. The end state of Proof of Work is a Dyson sphere around Sol. It's undeniable that it is more efficient to drink from the source, so the hash gotten from our sun will undoubtedly outstrip that which can be done on the moon. Our sun is inconceivably huge. This might be a controversial statement due to the limits of relativity... But either the No Communication Theorem winds up just being a quantum protocol engineering problem, or the residents of the Solar system all just send their big transactions towards their sun, relying first and foremost on a multilayered monetary system, and only for those that are truly scarce, which will be a simple way to resolve property ownership disputes, all other things being found in abundance in a Kardashev Type I post-scarcity society. Solar Mining will be the Third and Final Era of Bitcoin Mining. Bitcoin mining helps to assist in financing all of these megaprojects by aligning energy with money: 1) abundant, clean energy on Earth, 2) post scarcity economies in orbit, and 3) colonization of the Solar system. Once contact with the aliens who realized Humans were ready for their gift, the nudge, the Big Cosmic Hint At How To Do Things, we can join the civilized galactic civilization with the pride of having done the Great Work of becoming an Type I Civilization, thank them, and then figure out how StellEx works (Stellar Exchange markets) between our economies. It's fun to imagine what might be traded and how trade might occur between stars. But that's about as far as I care to speculate for now, at least, before I've published one of the books I'm working on, The Exophiles.

So, over the past several weeks I noticed several of the relays I'd been using dropping off, becoming inconsistently reachable. I eventually went from having over 80 relays configured to under 50. At this point, relays are a dime a dozen, so as soon as I see it's unreachable, it gets culled. I'd added a few paid relays in the past, maybe a dozen, but I decided to seek out more now. It took me about an hour and about $50 in sats to add all the paid relays I could find, but now I can safely say, I have more paid relays than unpaid. It makes me feel good to support those who become relay operators. Your efforts are not necessary, but they are appreciated. I used this site to find paid relays, for those curious: https://relay.exchange/ image

About a week ago my husband tried plugging in an electric heater we keep in the closet-- he has no meat on his bones, unlike me-- and it made this horrible screeching sound and started making smoke. And I ran in and was like, "Honey, I got this", like a man who had harnessed infinite fire, and I trucked my little S9 modded with Noctuas on a small office chair out of my office and into his studio. So, today I go in to chat, and it's like a sauna in there, he's been keeping the door mostly closed to trap the heat inside, I think he's enjoying it, as much as he doesn't want to admit it 😹

NASA will be launching a mission to the metallic asteroid, 16 Psyche, later this year. SpaceX is building a rocket that will bring the cost of putting a kilo into orbit down to $10. A kilo of gold is presently worth $60,000. I've never been more bearish on precious metals.

Today I learned that not only does Monero have NFTs, which at first I was like, awesome, well done, that must have been very technically challenging! But the devs suddenly, unilaterally, merged a change to censor txs containing minted Mordinals, and they're asking mining pools to censor txs they don't like. Wow. Wowowow. Say what you will of Ordinals, at least Bitcoin didn't lose the fucking plot...

I have tinnitus in my right ear because I forgot to wear ear protection while I spent three hours hammering a 24 word seed phrase into a series of stainless steel washers on an actual anvil, but it was damn well worth it to give a big middle finger to the big banks so I can keep my wealth in my own hands and not someone else's.

So, what this is telling me is that there are couples with access to $4M that can live on $160k/year entirely risk-free* and do nothing of value to society other than to be wealthy and not even make use of it? I don't consider myself as someone who gets jealous at the wealthy, but I make an exception for cantillionaires. This system of fiat is so disgusting. *provided, the Federal Reserve doesn't screw up so egregiously somehow that the US dollar becomes entirely worthless... Because that can't happen, right? There's no way that's happening, right??? image

Just bought $1k even at these prices. Why? I remember $33k. I remember $50k. You never know when we'll never see $27k again.

Bitcoin = Settlements Layer (L1) Electrum Server = Accounts Layer (L1.5) Lightning = Payments Layer (L2) RGB = Contracts Layer (L3) Fedimint = Banking Layer (L3) Nostr = Social Layer (L3) Carbonado = Storage Layer (L3) Sidechains are not layers, they're separate blockchains. Layers show us, we only really need the one blockchain. I'm not concerned about scaling. Plenty of these layers can scale themselves, but that will take work. It's time to build.
