I must admit I've been surprised by how quickly the cuts have come. It's almost like someone watched "Yes Minister!". #DOGE must have some people that know what's up with the admin/deep state.

A Seldom Heard History of California's Water System Hansen is a guy local to me. Smart and well read. We disagree on many topics but he's providing a good summary of the water situation from the perspective of the Central Valley. Rarely stated any better. I have some points of disagreement but on the whole he's correct. originally posted at

Blind Man Obtains Concealed Carry Permit, Questions Indiana Gun Laws Feels like an Onion article doesn't it? > Regardless of one’s physical abilities, the right to self-defense is universal. Sutherland has the same right as any other law-abiding citizen to defend himself from a life-threatening attack. At the same time, like every gun owner, he bears full responsibility for every round he fires. If he were to use a firearm irresponsibly, that liability would be on him—not the government. While it seems absurd on its face the state's gun regulations really do violate the most basic rights of humans. These violations affect the weakest among us. When I get push back from folks about guns I always go to the right to defend one's self but it is also important to say that each person should be held to account for their use of deadly force. We don't hear that enough in these conversations and it really strengthens the position of those in support of human rights. originally posted at

A.I. Critic Ed Zitron is Worth a Listen - On the Media Podcast I've been reading Ed Zitron for a while now. His newsletter is pretty great. He and I align on our criticisms of Silicon Valley, not so much on politics, Bitcoin, or economics though. He's a pretty good curmudgeon. I don't co-sign all his points on this appearance but I think he is mostly correct though. More correct than the AI is gonna take over crowd at least. His observations about Sam Altman and LLMs are dead right. He glosses over some stuff and his position on the value of AI might be overstated but I haven't really heard anyone come close to countering him. I'd love to hear some AI proponents push back. I feel like there is a lot of pie in the sky and not enough real talk about AI. One of my favorite quotes from this episode is the "AI doesn't _know_ anything" Its all guesses. And few people really get that about ChatGPT. I use the tools. I think they have value but its being propped up right now by a ton of cheap fiat. Its gonna crash hard. Not gonna be pretty. originally posted at

Donald Trump’s Gaza Mirage I was offline for a while (I guess) and missed the latest Trump news... lol. Buddy of mine said this was happening in a text. > The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous, unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site, level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area. Do a real job, do something different. Just can’t go back. If you go back, it’s going to end up the same way it has for 100 years. Later I recalled hearing about this months and months ago. I can't find the source but I'm _pretty sure_ it was covered on the [No Agenda Podcast](https://www.noagendashow.net/). I recall one of Trump's sons going over to Israel and talking about turning the Gaza Strip into a vacation spot... basically. At this point its pretty safe to say that if Trump promised he was gonna do something its either a negotiation strategy, which is mentioned in this article or he's gonna try to do it. Some of those things are good... some are bad... and some thing we will just have to wait and see. My advice. Take a deep breath and grab the popcorn. It will be an interesting four years for sure. Just remember, the media and I include podcasts and social media in that now are incentivized to keep you nervous and on the edge of your seat. If you are feeling anxious and concerned about the future try to focus on things within your control. Preparation, solutions, and investing in your own security should be the focus. Not what the orange man is doing. Stack sats, secure your future, spend time investing in yourself. originally posted at

Many bitcoiners don't get that there's a difference between trust and understanding consequences. I don't trust the weather but I sure want to prepare for what may happen as a consequence. I may be happy about a sunny day but I don't trust the weather or especially forecasts.

Do You Think the NFL is Tipping the Scales for the Chiefs? I'm not the biggest nerd here on football and I mostly watch the 49ers games but even I can see some questionable calls in games that favor the Chiefs. I really want another team to win the big game this year. That is a bias for sure. I'm still thinking about it though. I think it might be complicated. Obviously the Chiefs and their QB are great for the league. Not to mention Taylor Swift dating a player. This pumps ratings which is money! So, could it be that there isn't some grand conspiracy but refs know that these are the golden boys and give them the calls more often than any other team? I suspect this happens in the NBA with James and I believe it did with Jordan. The NFL tried to protect Brady when he was at the top. Its not crazy to think that plays a part right? What do you think? originally posted at
