Microsoft… in the year 2025, Sept… has open-sourced its 6502 BASIC interpreter from 1976. This version of BASIC was adapted for the MOS 6502 CPU that powered Apple II, Commodore PET, VIC-20, +. The released asm (version 1.1) consists of nearly 7,000 lines and includes features such as floating-point arithmetic, string handling, array support, and efficient memory use for 8-bit systems 😎
Microsoft licensed this BASIC to Commodore in 1977 for a flat fee of $25,000 …tech business historians will know a bit 😉 about dat.
