Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man' drawing depicts a man in two superimposed positions within a circle and a square. The proportions are carefully calculated in an attempt to represent the underlying perfection of Man and to link him directly to the Universe. The relationship of the human form to a circle & square reflects ancient ideas - dating back to Plato, Pythagoras and earlier mystic traditions - which attempted to forge a link between Nature and geometry. image

‘From 1st principles AI will be the most profound technology that humanity will work on.More impactful & profound than fire, electricity or the internet. It can appear as recency bias as any disruptive and innovative form of creativity can appear as the best thing in the moment but AI is in a league of its own & will surpass everything before it.We have never dealt with a technology that is developing as fast & capable as AI.We also do not know what the ceiling is for its potential.Couple this to its recursive learning & ability to actuate creativity. By 2030 there would have been such dramatic progress and we will be dealing with the negative & positive externalities & consequences of that progress’ Thoughts on Artificial Intelligence from CEO of Google & Alphabet on The Lex.fridman podcast.

One Species, One Planet. Astronauts see simplicity because they are physically forced to see the world in a different way. We can’t all be astronauts but we can all study science and change the mental altitude of our perspective that shapes our world. Thoughts taken from “Forces of Nature” by Prof.B Cox & A.Cohen image

It’s beautiful & fascinating how Artificial Intelligent models e.g Transformers context-recognition abilities (developed through self-supervised learning on unlabeled data) can be used to understand semantic connection in text. On 15 August 1977, the Big Ear radio telescope at detected an anomalously strong radio signal from deep space. An alphanumeric representation of the signal’s intensity “6EQUJ5”,a spike so remarkable that astronomer Jerry Ehman circled it and wrote “Wow!” in the margin. The signal came from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius, with no known Earth-originating source. The nearest star in that region is 122 light years away. To this day, scientists haven’t detected it again. Its origin remains a mystery. image

‘There are a number of characteristics of intelligent behavior that LLM’s perform very primitively or fail to mimic. Examples are the capacity to understand the physical world, the ability to remember and retrieve things, persistent memory and to reason & plan. LLM’s are missing essential components on the path to human level intelligence. LLM’s are trained on large text-based datasets that would take the average human being 170 000 years to read at 8hrs a day. However the amount of multi-sensory Information the human beings extract from their environment far exceed the amount of textual information LLM’s train on, when compared in bits per data.’ Thoughts from Yann.Lacun on The Lex Fridman podcast episode 416

When the internet started Google wasn’t around. Currently the opportunity in the AI landscape is vast and greater than the culmination of all previous technologies combined. You have the brightest competitive minds in the space of this frontier. There are companies & business models that will emerge in the next few years that we can’t even imagine yet. Somewhere in some random garage there are kids playing around with this tech that could become the next Big Thing. It’s an exciting time to be alive.🫶 image

Interesting fact: “I’m not a robot” prompt (often part of Google’s reCAPTCHA) isn’t just about clicking the checkbox but how you interact with it.The system analyzes your behavior to distinguish humans from bots. It detects mouse movement, click timing, keystrokes, scrolling etc image

‘Thousands of years ago, ‘Salt’ was seen as a very precious and valuable good. It was traded as a medium of exchange amongst buyers and sellers of goods. The word ‘salary’ has its origins from the Latin word for ‘Salt rations’ that were paid to Roman soldiers. A true soldier is willing to dedicate—and even sacrifice—their life for a cause greater than themselves & something they wholeheartedly believe in. But don’t be mistaken… Loyalty, even that of a soldier, can be bought. image

You once trusted blindly— the voice on the radio, the face on the television, the ink in the newspaper. But as our channels of communication grow more advanced and more easily manipulated, trust can no longer be given. It must be verified. In the new world, trust is not a feeling. It is a function. It is encryption. It is code. image

Historical great thinkers like Nietzsche, van Gogh & Tesla are often cited as examples of brilliance intertwined with periods of psychological struggle & isolation from the rest of society due to their paradigm shifting insights that resulted in them being labelled as ‘unhinged’ With AI companions modern thinkers, innovators and creators have a supportive sounding board for ideas, a tool for exploring complex concepts, and a resource for instant information 24 hours, 7 days a week. The future is bright🫶 image

The Manhattan Project involved thousands of scientists, engineers, and workers spread across multiple sites, each focusing on different parts of the project, such as uranium enrichment, bomb design, and theoretical physics. Most of them didn’t know the full scope of the project. They only knew their immediate tasks. This compartmentalization ensured secrecy and efficiency, and it helped prevent any single person from having all the knowledge about the atomic bomb before it was ready. Other historical examples of large scale projects like these are: The Apollo Program, The Panama Canal construction, The Interstate Highway System. image
