This dam spillway is so dope! Wish we still built stuff like this for both functionality and beauty.. The lip of the spillway is ever so slightly lower where the waterfalls start (than closer to the bridge where I took this photo) image The view from below.. #oldworld #engineering
Latest addition to the travel van, the removable table! image If you're going for a long time on the road with no screens the kids are gonna need a table to color, eat, write and play on. They're pretty stoked about it! All from random wood I had collecting dust in the shop, and screws were from a recently scrapped chicken tractor #diy #overlanding
GM! I think i have a decent metaphor for society, "the system" and the money printer.. The large music festival. Just got done attending one of the bigger ones in the world with 'friends of the organizers' wrist bands this weekend. It really opened my eyes that there are two parallel systems at play- that are both programming behavior.. The paying public (who funds it all) with scanable wristbands that are tied to their identity and funds. You want a can of water or some food? Scan your band and your account will be debited. The "entertainment" they paid for includes 9 stages of various qualities and genres of music, and programming of various social agendas (think drag shows, etc) Meanwhile there are hidden corners and nooks that aren't marked, for the people with special wristbands.. Its endless free food, drinks, air conditioned bathrooms, etc. Even the people who paid big with "VIP" badges don't get in. I liken the organizers to the fed. If you're close to them you get the comped bands that are no strings attached endless free stuff. Its reminiscent of the cantillion effect, where people close to the printer pay nothing but get outsized benefits on the backs of the general public You meet some of the bands and "programmers" as you're eating grilled swordfish or lamb dinner, and do everything possible to avoid the onslaught of the crowds Not a perfect comparison but thought it was interesting food for thought.. Everytime I think about a music festival I think about this album my dad used to listen to in the 90's He took us to a bunch of shows as young kids, so I do the same with my kids. They have a blast while experiencing the music, but always want to go back to that alluring "secret area". You can see how normal people quickly get accustomed to the systems that benefit them Thanks for listening to my ted talk.. Now that song: "oh yes yes, its the summer festival. The truly detestable summer festival" ๐Ÿ˜† (sorry the quality is kinda shite) Have a good one frens!
