Today’s soup project finally done. Just have to cut these in half once they are fully frozen flat, vacuum seal them and tops them in the deep freeze.

Life and parenthood. What a trip.

The thing I love about Nostr is that it puts each of us in touch with minds that we would normally never get to interact with in a world limited by social strata and the obsolete need to be part of the “in crowd”. A place for the pure exchange of ideas based on their merit. It’s an amazing time to be alive.

Freezing everything except the 5-6 bowls of soup we had for lunch and supper today. Tomorrow we will cut the bags in half and vacuum seal them, and throw everything in the deep freeze. A week’s worth of emergency provisions in a pinch. The freezer can run off the solar battery bank if the grid is down. #prepping

The most important thing I have learned in the past 10 years comes from chapter 13 of Saifedean Ammous’ “The Bitcoin Standard”, regarding the concept of time preference.

What’s with this elasticity

Today’s project, 3 1/2 gallons of turkey soup with smoked turkey stock. I pressure canned 12 quarts of stock from 5 hot smoked turkey carcasses 8 months ago. This recipe used 3. Plus 10 quarts of filtered water. Once it is done, I just pour it into XL freezer bags, freeze it flat, cut the bags in half, vacuum seal the halves, and throw them in the freezer for 2 person servings. You really can’t screw it up unless you add too much salt. Total cost: $30. Servings: 28. Just over $1 per serving for what would cost $4.25 per can at the grocery store.

With an upturn in optimism about the direction the country is headed, I can see a trend coming where people who have been thinking about preparedness for the past few years slow down on becoming self sufficient. We are still governed by snakes in suits. Much of what we are seeing this week is still theatre. We have crossed the event horizon of ever being able to escape deficit spending and the clearing the national debt. Stay frosty. Grow a garden. Meet your neighbours and local producers.
