I'd like to think that we have done a good job fostering a love for reading with our kids.
at bedtime we saw on the monitor that he got out of bed, went to his book cabinet and brought a book back to bed. He fell asleep cuddling the book.

we are not getting discharged today.
Another night at the hospital with my baby. We got more tests done today to rule out more things which means we still don't know what's up and can only manage symptoms.
Hope he feels better tomorrow.

I always forget that reading comprehension of the general public is LOW.
every so once in a while I'll ask questions about my crafts and hobbies on social media like reddit or Facebook groups (lots of old timey crafters on there) and get useless replies.
So many of them clearly demonstrate a complete lack of understanding what the post was about and the questions asked. Just like those people who leave reviews on Amazon that says "I don't know if it's good or not." or yelp reviews that are like "didn't eat here. laundromat needs quarters."
uggghhh. okay. rant over.
no more asking the Internet for answers. I'll just fiddle and experiment myself.
do you think the ER will give me a frequent visitor punch card?
We went yesterday evening and was admitted into the hospital by midnight. I'm glad to know that my instincts were not wrong but it also sucks that we're here.
It is incredible how much medical technology and analysis was done in such a short time. Blood drawn and analyzed within an hour. CT scan done and results within an hour. Cerebral spinal fluid drawn and results within an hour. (They stuck a big needle into his spine! I stood aside while they started to prep. Doc said "are you gonna be okay watching?" to which I decided no, I will not be okay and went to wait in the hall and listened to him wail there.)
There's so much collective knowledge about human physiology, medicine and biology converging on one little 8 month old dude to figure out what's wrong and help him feel better.
Being in the PICU is heart wrenching but he's doing a lot better than yesterday and we've ruled out the major big bad ailments. That leaves us with big question marks on why he was in such poor condition. The upside is that he's getting better with his body is fighting whatever illness on his own.
What a champ.

I finished reading Station Eleven and now I'm very grateful for the things we have.
all the little things that make up a life.
who the hell is buying a 4 bed, 2.5 bath single family home for 1.3 MILLION DOLLARS.
it's crazy.
these little ones are more online every day.
I came back in the house from a workout session out in the garage gym. As I entered the living room, all three little dudes stopped what they were doing and looked up at me. I greeted them as I walked past to get to the bathroom.
But nooo, mama isn't allowed to leave line of sight. they all cried for me, in absolute sync. I stayed to play with them a little until other things caught their attention.
I'm not used to that kind of unified reaction and demand for my attention. Guess I better.

I don't post videos or images of my children so you'll have to use your imagination.
Both of them are getting great at crawling on their tummies. One of them crawls using AWD and the other is FWD.

I am so grateful for this new rice cooker that can make rice in 15 minutes cuz I always forget to make rice.
it is amazingly cute when all three of them start giggling at apparently nothing.
also, a little creepy ๐ฌ
the littles are connecting their day time nap cycles now so my problem now is when do I wake you guys up? are you sleeping too much???
what a nice problem to have ๐
taro has tagged along to so many well baby appointments that going to the doctor is not a scary thing cuz he never thinks it's for him ๐
taro has a toy plane that he can assemble and take apart using a toy power drill. incredibly fun. he also has a toy train tracks set with train cars.
Both are toys with many parts. The parts are big enough to be toddler friendly and small enough to make my mama-radar go "let's keep this out of your little bros' mouths, kay?"
During the day, these toys are stowed away in their storage bags and only come out when the twins are napping or asleep for the night. taro knows this.
Of course, that doesn't stop him from asking for them all day long. When they were finally sleeping, I asked which one he wanted and he said choo choo. So I gave him the train bag and sent him on his way to the play area.
I went to go do some chores and he came by later to me asking for the plane. I saw his train pieces were still scattered so I said "put your train pieces in the bag and we can change to your plane."
I think a more natural way to speak would be to say "if you want to play with your plane, you have to put away your train first." I had to fight the urge and instead specifically speak in a way that I know he understands.
I went back to my chore and later I heard the rattle of him walking with his train bag. He did indeed put all 40 of the pieces back in which was surprising. I thought he'd at least miss one or two. I met him at the cabinet where the plane was stored. We traded out his toy and he went off happily.
I don't know why I wanted to share this story. I think it's because I'm amazed at how much he's understanding these days. How he has internal motivations to do his own thing. How he and I can communicate and understand each other. It's really marvelous and I can't wait to see him grow and grow.
