I’m back to writing my Bitcoin book.
The last few months I talked a lot to publishers. What I learned cured me of any illusions.
Publishers today are mostly gatekeepers that take a lot of money from you, without providing something you can’t do yourself.
I am not saying that because I got declined, I even talked to one publisher who is focusing on Bitcoin books (not gonna write his name). But one of his first questions was:
“How do you plan to market it?”
I always thought that I as the writer writes, and the publisher does the rest. In reality, you give up control, grant a publisher a large cut, and still need to do most of the promotion yourself.
So why bother with publishers?
Sure, they bring you into bookstores, but sales happen online today..
They might give me a small advance? I can finance myself.
Proofreading? I can pay for that too. And AI is already doing a great job.
In conclusion: I don’t need a publisher.
So, over the next months I’ll focus on finishing the interviews and writing the book.
One thing will change though: I'm gonna market myself more.
I will share passages, quotes, chapters here on Nostr..
Stay tuned!
