There are many versions of ourselves; the battle-hardened older brothers and sisters in us will fight to protect their younger, more naive sibling versions, especially when there has been suffering, and perhaps cruelty. The tragedy arises when those younger siblings are silenced, even when their voices are desperately needed to be heard.
