If they had never have done that then the Titanic would have literally dropped off the face of the earth. No movie, nothing. We wouldn't even be able to find where it was in the ocean.

There's something really special about how navy sailors love their ships/subs. Think about it, that ship is not only your home it's: your community, your work, your security. The vessel protects you from the ocean, keeps you warm, fed and entertained. It's like your own mobile country. I get pretty emotional hearing about Sailor's reunited with their ships or losing one.
