One of my favourite examples of brutalist architecture; Wohnpark Alterlaa is an apartment complex that consists of 6 buildings all located in a picturesque park. I had the opportunity to see this building in person today while visiting Vienna, Austria. The buildings host around 12,000 people, feature a rooftop swimming pool, sports arena, and shopping mall, and have a dedicated train station nearby.

There were a bunch of Ring-Billed Gulls and Franklin’s Gulls out in the North Saskatchewan River this afternoon. Very active and fun to watch

We are in a situation today in which humanity as a whole are facing multiple crisis; environmental crisis, massive inequality, ballooning poverty, potentially devastating wars and so on. Despite being aware of this we lack the collective will to take radical measures to resolve the crisis before us. I think this is because we ultimately feel a real lack of freedom in our lives. We find ourselves at a moment in history where everything around us is provisional. New technologies alter our lives daily. The traditions of the past are irretrievable while at the same time we hold little idea what the future brings. All of this while being told that we are free while simultaneously lacking a proper foundation of knowledge.
