Every autocrat knows the same trick.
Control communication. Control money. Control identity.
The technology changes. The pattern never does.
72% of humanity — 5.7 billion people — lives under some form of autocratic rule.
The question is not whether the technology is powerful. The question is: who holds the keys?

Mayor of Caracas (Chacao) 2000-08. Lead protest against the dictatorship 2014 and was sent to prison. Escaped in 2021. Im now in exile and cofounded the worldlibertycongress.org
Autocracy does not begin with handcuffs.
It begins when someone else holds the keys.
Your speech. Your money. Your identity. The moment those depend on someone else's permission — you are already not free.
That is not a metaphor. I learned it in a cell in Venezuela.
The technology to change this exists now.
The last time I saw my daughter Manuela before being taken to prison, she was dressed as Elsa from Frozen.
She had no idea what was happening. She just wanted to play.
I memorized that image. In the cell, when silence became unbearable, I would close my eyes and see her in that blue dress.
That's what autocracy does to families — it turns ordinary afternoons into last memories.
That's why this fight isn't abstract. It never was.
Three months after Maduro's capture, Venezuela has no constitutional president.
Delcy Rodríguez holds power through a Supreme Court ruling that invented a legal category — 'forced absence' — that doesn't exist in the Constitution. It was designed to avoid triggering elections. It worked.
Meanwhile: Maduro faces narcoterrorism charges in a New York court. Dozens of political prisoners were released. Dozens more remain.
This isn't a democratic transition. It's Chavismo managing its survival.
Venezuela deserves elections. Not cosmetic changes. Not legal acrobatics. A genuine transition — built on democratic legitimacy, not a borrowed presidency propped up by a subservient court.
The clock is ticking. And the window won't stay open forever.

Today I am in Oslo for the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to María Corina Machado, a historic recognition for our struggle and for the Venezuelan people.
Here, I am reminded of something I have repeated for years, and which fully aligns with María Corina’s message: there is no peace without freedom. That truth resonates more powerfully than ever at this crucial moment for our country.
From Oslo, I raise my hopes that Venezuelans will soon be able to return home, reunite with their families, and rebuild the free and democratic nation we deserve.

DESCENTRALIZED RESISTANCE
Great quote in Andor.
“There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy.
Remember this: Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause.
Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.
And then remember this: The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.
Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire’s authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.”
We took part in the panel “Democracy needs you. Be there!”, organized by Berliner Sparkasse. One of more than 180 events taking place during Berlin Freedom Week.

Today we’re on the second day of the @World Liberty Congress General Assembly.
We continue building unity, strategy and strength to keep advancing the fight for freedom.

Why I think Nostr is an alternative to people under autocratic regimes like Venezuela:
1) Inmune to Regime Control and censorship, so if the regime blocks social media (like it happened with X in Venezuela 6 months ago), Nostr cannot be blocked.
2) Decentralized and each user will own their account and followers.
3) Nostr is also a payment rail in BTC. This is KEY for freedom activists and regular citizens. At some point billions of $ of remittances will be able to be sent directly, fast and mega low cost.
4) Nostr is a BTC heavy community, these are people that take freedom and privacy very seriously. Freedom is the core purpose of millions who live under autocracy, so Nostr is at the intersection of financial freedom, free speech and political freedom.
5) expanding the community of Nostr people under autocratic regimes will be going to the frontline in the fight for freedom. There will be lots of learning and action.
I’m Leopoldo Lopez from Venezuela, joined Nostr a couple of months ago but lost my private key, standing next to Odell, I’m here to bring Nostr to freedom fighters in Venezuela and around the world.
