My fellow AIER contributor Michael Peterson wrote a thoughtful piece about youngsters (Gen Z) taking financial responsibility and tighten their belt.
Gen Z's Financial Nihilism | The Daily Economy
While that's usually decent advice for anyone, at any time, it's particularly unsuited for young people today.
Your generation didn't create this mess and has a total of zero reasons to fix it. You, from your pittance of incomes, eking out a microscopic surplus after servicing your student debts and outrages taxes will contribute a sum total of ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the fiscal and monetary mess that is America -- and by extension the Western world.
Your countries' Ponzi schemes will break _long_ before you'll see a cent of the many dollars you'll have contributed over your time.
Your countries' corrupt and dysfunctional health care systems will be abandoned _long_ before you'll start to receive any meaningful care in old age.
Your countries' Treasuries will bankrupt themselves before you see much of that "welfare" money or rent-seeking pork inherent in the classic old Bastiat quote ("The state is the great fictitious entity by which everyone seeks to live at the expense of everyone else").
Why contribute? Just stop.
Yes, I'm calling for you to exit. There's no stopping this train -- why cling on for dear life and and at great effort to yourself pull the emergency breaks? Nah, screw it.
Fuck what the fiat world did, fuck what #Clownworld ruined. Live free OUTSIDE their world.
Do absolutely everything in your power to withdraw resources from the legacy, broken system (attention, medicare, pension plans, income taxes) & leverage everything you can into the future. Learn a trade you can sell for freedom money or to neighbors and friends for cash; grow crops. Get private/community off-the-books solutions, minimize your income, work for #bitcoin and don't tell anyone about it.
Just leave, in every which way you can, and watch Clown World implode upon itself.
Nihilism, financial or otherwise, it's all you've reasonably got left. Embrace it.
