VPNs can help you to hide your traffic so that your ISP doesn't know what you are doing. You move trust from the ISP to a VPN provider. There are good providers out there. If you want to have a more trustless setup install your own VPN server which is pretty easy.
Here is a very easy script for the installation
Rent a VPS anonymous from us or choose any provider you want. But thats a much more trustless way.
Also you have the advantage that your IP isn't blocked by some services as it doesn't belong to a well known VPN subnet.

The whole Bitcoin Knots vs Bitcoin Core discussion is absolute ridicolous. Why?
BOTH camps are caputured.
If you want to escape you really have to do a hard decision which means drop BTC, its ethos is already lost since years. Use Monero instead. Do your research. Maxis try to misinform you about it, they try everything to capture you. Ignore them.
We had an issue with one of our VPS nodes in Germany. Everything runs fine now.
