This weekend highlights the important of building with open source models and continued investment into that ecosystem. Lots of companies, both large and small have OpenAI at the core of important parts of their roadmap. That’s a risk and something that if more folks were building with models like Llama, StableDiffusion, etc we could avoid the collateral damage of what I imagine will follow from what could be a collapse of OpenAI.

Would love some opinions and guidance: I’ve been wanting to get into coding so I can start to build my ideas. I know there are so many great tools that have been developed (like Vercel and very powerful web frameworks that can help bring great design to life. I’d like to start by learning how to fork off of GitHub. There’s a really cool chat app called HuggingChat that I’d like to start with and then be able to plug in API to inference in the cloud and setup a relay and storage system. What do I need to learn in order to do this? Also, with the state of LLMs and CoPilots, what don’t I need to learn or shouldn’t waste time focusing on? A few years back, I took and HTML and CSS classes on treehouse and a Python course on Udemy b/c at the time I thought I had to learn PyTorch to do cool neural network shit. So, I have a tiiiiinnnnyyyy bit of familiarity and also took Java and Objective C classes in grad school. Who can help your friendly neighborhood designer learn how to start building?!?! #asknostr

If I could learn anything new in my life, it would be two things : - front and server side (enough to use all of these amazing API’s and new AI tools and frameworks) engineering - carpentry Being able to physically build with atoms and bits feels like a superpower and these are skills that I’d very much like to learn one day.

@manlikekweks is one of the brightest flames in our community. Both as an artist and an individual Kweks shines a bright spotlight on what it means to be a bitcoiner and to help others along their own personal journey of bitcoin. If you can, please send some sats to reach the remaining goal of 8m sats to bring the Proof of Work Academy to life in Tanzania.

Has anyone verified that semi isn’t an LLM preprompted with vague pessimism and an affinity for open protocols? View quoted note →

The problem was, you can’t ask Aristotle a question. And I think, as we look towards the next fifty to one hundred years, if we really can come up with these machines that can capture an underlying spirit, or an underlying set of principles, or an underlying way of looking at the world, then, when the next Aristotle comes around, maybe if he carries around one of these machines with him his whole life—his or her whole life—and types in all this stuff, then maybe someday, after this person’s dead and gone, we can ask this machine, “Hey, what would Aristotle have said? What about this?” And maybe we won’t get the right answer, but maybe we will. And that’s really exciting to me. And that’s one of the reasons I’m doing what I’m doing. - Steve Jobs : June 15, 1983
