Building Continuum now has its own home. Today I split the Books section of the Continuum website into a true catalog and a dedicated page for Building Continuum. The book now has a place that can grow over time—not just with purchase links, but also companion resources, related articles, and now the new YouTube chapter readings. As the project evolves, this page will become the canonical home for the book itself. One small design detail I particularly like is finally displaying the cover alongside the book instead of treating it as just another link. It's a small change, but it makes the book feel like a first-class artifact rather than just another document. image #BuildingContinuum #Continuum #Nostr #LocalFirst

7/3/2026 — Continuum Gets a Media Library Today I added the first version of a Media Library to Continuum. Instead of relying on external image hosts for article assets, Continuum can now upload images directly to my own media service backed by Cloudflare R2. Each image receives a stable URL under my own domain, for example: ```https://media.mycontinuum.xyz/2026/pro/nostr/<npub>/images/...``` The Media Library currently supports: - Uploading images - Automatic safe filenames - Duplicate filename handling - Viewing uploaded images - Copying image URLs - Deleting images - Synchronizing the media index while preserving metadata Image metadata is stored separately in an index.json file, allowing tags and other descriptive information to evolve without changing the underlying storage layout. This is only the first iteration, but it's already proving much more convenient for writing articles. The long-term goal is to support multiple storage backends—including Cloudflare R2, S3, Blossom, and others—behind a common interface so Continuum remains independent of any single media provider. Owning your identity is important. Owning your media is becoming just as important. image #Continuum #Nostr #Cloudflare #R2

I published a new article today that explores the question that eventually led me to build Continuum. For years, my digital life felt like a series of visits. Facebook. LinkedIn. X. WhatsApp. Nostr. Each knew a different part of me, but none of them ever felt like home. The article is a short companion to Chapter 1 of Building Continuum. It tells the same story from a different angle and asks a simple question: What if your digital home wasn't an application? Sometimes a five-minute article is enough to introduce an idea. Sometimes it takes a book to explore where that idea leads. #Continuum #LocalFirst #Nostr

Spot on !!! This article really laid it all out! Started Continuum on my birthday in 2025 just over 1 year ago. I have written over 900 articles on bitcoin, sovereignty and “ building cathedrals”) on Nostr Published a book (Building Continuum) in March ( before I turned 61) Everything you described in this article I have gone through. But I have no desire to go back This is really important to read. Thank you for sharing !!

6/25/2026 — Software Should Age Well One of the ideas behind Continuum is that software shouldn't just work today—it should still be useful years from now. That means thinking about portability, durability, versioning, and making it possible to recover from mistakes without losing your work. Features come and go. A solid foundation lasts. #Continuum #LocalFirst #SoftwareEngineering #Nostr

6/25/2026 — Describing Continuum I attended a Small Business Expo today and had several conversations about Continuum. The interesting part wasn't explaining how it works technically—it was finding language that people could immediately relate to. The description that seemed to resonate best was: Somewhere between a password manager and a place to manage your identities. It's not the complete picture, but it's a useful starting point for explaining a much broader vision. #Continuum #Identity #Nostr #Startups

6/25/2026 — Progress Isn't Always Visible Today wasn't about adding a big new feature. It was about improving migrations, making the archive queue idempotent, eliminating duplicate work, and making synchronization more reliable. None of those changes are particularly exciting to look at. But they make the foundation stronger. Sometimes the most important work is the work no one notices. #Continuum #BuildInPublic #SoftwareEngineering #LocalFirst

6/25/2026 — Continuum Was Never Meant to Be Another Nostr Client There are already excellent Nostr clients. That was never really the problem I wanted to solve. Continuum is using Nostr as infrastructure, not as a destination. Publishing notes, articles, profiles, and interacting socially are important, but they're only part of a much larger picture. I'm interested in giving people ownership over their identities and data, regardless of which application they happen to be using. #Continuum #Nostr #OpenProtocols #DigitalIdentity #Sovereignty

6/25/2026 — Identity Before Applications The more I work on Continuum, the less I think about applications. Applications come and go. Identity persists. If I change browsers, operating systems, Nostr clients, or even protocols, I don't want to rebuild who I am each time. Software should adapt to my identity. Not the other way around. #Continuum #Identity #SelfSovereignIdentity #LocalFirst #Nostr
