I'm back! Last week Thursday (8/13), my main MacBook Pro (Intel) (which I have been using continuously since 2016) decided to call it quits. Turns out the SSD (internal) disk started failing, and sure enough First Aid couldn't fix it, so I've been dealing with that. I had another MacBook Pro I have been using since last Friday, but it's running an older OS. Then on Friday (8/14) our dryer stopped working and I had to order a replacement for it. The dryer is stacked on top of our washer (both LG models) The new dryer was installed this afternoon. It works great and is very quiet. Then this past Tuesday night (8/18) our dog Whiskers (who is now 16 years) had some "mistakes" that evening. He also had not been eating much that day and refused his medications (my wife figured out how to give it him with some cheese of course. Today (8/20) he regained his appetite and looks to be doing much better. Life happens I feel like this past week I've been living in a time warp.

I suppose I would get more reactions if I scolded certain individuals by name. That is not my style, and I will not apologize for refusing to do it. I see so much visceral hatred here now, and I refuse to be drawn into a lynch-mob mentality. Accountability is necessary. Personal degradation, threats, and collective fury are not. “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.” I am angry. But my anger does not require me to hate anyone.

OpenSats must answer serious questions about conflicts of interest and insider influence. Prominent Bitcoin figures who helped establish COLDCARD’s credibility also owe users an honest accounting. Reputation cannot substitute for verification—and it cannot become a shield against responsibility when people lose their savings. I am deliberately not naming specific individuals here. Others have already raised those questions publicly, and it is not my style to attack or denigrate people. But that restraint should not be mistaken for an absence of anger. I feel betrayed by what has happened and by the apparent failure of people and institutions that many Bitcoiners trusted. Full disclosure: I do not own a COLDCARD, and I was not personally affected. But I do self-custody my bitcoin, and I honestly feel the victims’ pain. I keep asking myself: What if those had been my funds? What if my savings had been drained through no real fault of my own because the “secure seed” I relied upon was not actually secure enough? That possibility should trouble every person who self-custodies—not only those who happened to use this particular device. I know most people will probably ignore what I am saying. Much of it has already been said—often more loudly—by people with far greater prominence than I have. But honestly, it would be nice to be taken seriously too. I should not have to shout, attack people, or command a large following before my concern carries any weight.

Wouldn't it be great if the attacker (or attackers) returned the money somehow ? Create a podcast about what they did, start a bitcoin security firm. Become wildly successful. Might end up worth more than the 38 Million that was stolen. Nah, that would be impossible right ? One can hope though. I hate see so much pain. I have some bitcoin (but on a different hardware wallet). What if it was the one that had the hidden vulnerability?

Reading about all those who lost coins through the coldcard vulnerability, and it breaks my heart. Truly saddedned .

I am actually using Continuum Identity Workspace + Continuum Signer to login and post here (on primal). It's actually a very nice experience. I have been cleaning up the Continuum Workspace repo , especially the readme.

** Announcing the Continuum Identity Workspace ** July 26, 2026 --- Every time you install a new browser signer or move to a different bunker service, you have to set up your Nostr identities again. Use Chrome and Safari? You will need to import the same private keys into two different tools. Have several identities? You must repeat that process for every identity—and remember which keys are stored where. Continuum Identity Workspace solves this by keeping all your identities and private keys together in one local, portable workspace. Import an identity once. Then install Continuum Signer in your preferred browser and use that identity with your favorite Nostr apps. You can log in, post, react, and sign events normally, while your private keys remain in the Continuum workspace—not in the browser’s local storage or a remote bunker service. Continuum Signer is already open-source software and is available in the public mycontinuum.xyz repository. It works with Chrome, Brave, and Safari, although the Safari version has not yet been packaged for easy public installation. I will also be releasing Continuum Identity Workspace as open-source software in the next few days. This functionality is already included in the full Continuum application, which is currently available as a native application for Windows and macOS, through Docker, or as a Python application.
