Permanent memorial and milestone inscriptions on Bitcoin
Some moments deserve more than a place in a passing social-media feed.
After the recent loss of Whiskers, our beloved dog of more than 16 years, I created my first permanent Bitcoin memorial inscription for him. I then created inscriptions honoring Champ, my father, James A. Stanton, and my mother, Daphne C. Chun.
These inscriptions don’t replace an obituary, memorial page, photographs, or the stories we share. They do something different: each short message becomes part of Bitcoin’s public record. The inscription can be independently viewed and verified, and it does not depend upon my maintaining a website or social-media account.
This can commemorate more than a life that has ended. It could mark a birth, wedding, anniversary, graduation, the opening of a new business, or any milestone you believe deserves a permanent inscription.
For $21, you choose a short message—generally up to 80 characters—and I will record it in a Bitcoin transaction. I will provide the transaction ID and a link to mempool.space, a public Bitcoin block explorer, where the transaction and its OP_RETURN inscription can be verified.
