Thought is nothing but the movement of the past. It is a small part of reality.

EDUCATION There was a scab on her hand. She would pick at it in the evening when the image of waking up very early for school came to her mind. It was a temporary escape from fear. Sometimes it bled. Why do we send children to school? Is it to give them an education? What do we mean by Education? How to act, how to do a job, how to be useful to society, and therefore be secure? That is not Education. That is indoctrination into a group. Saying, “You must be taught to be like the rest of us.” Is Education acquiring knowledge, or a skill? For what purpose? To be better than the others? To become ambitious and competitive, and therefore selfish and violent? Or do we think we can learn to be virtuous by following a prescribed pattern? Conditioning the mind to have certain reactions is not virtue, and it is not Education. Education is learning how to live happily on this earth. And this learning requires freedom. Not the freedom we boast about when comparing governments. Not the freedom to do whatever you want. Freedom from fear, from being compared or measured. Freedom from all patterns, conclusions, beliefs, and ideas. Freedom to face every problem anew, without the heavy weight of a thousand yesterdays. It is only in this state of total freedom that the mind can discover truth.
