I share most of your views on this. Satoshi's initial vision for Bitcoin was both a Store of Value and Means of Exchange. It excels as a SoV, more than it excels as a MoE. Greed took over and now MoE has become a secondary concern, to us plebs demise. High fees are but a consequence of Bitcoin's capacity to be a SoV. Has bitcoin failed its promises? Partially. It still remains the greatest SoV ever. I don't think it is that bad inherently, but a better MoE has to coexist (Monero) with Bitcoin.

Protocol developpement decentralization is the last step for bitcoin. v30 has a sliver lining: it initiated it.

moreover, complexity creates fear and renders weak to find better and/or already existing solutions. systems are depicted are complex, while punishments to the uncompliants are straightforward and publiticized. This tips the risk/reward balance and favor flight response over fight response.
