I have failed miserably on the picture and posting front this week. So here’s the catch up post.
Dad’s truck: it’s a 1992 Ford F250 7.3 IDI. Changed all the fluids and filters over this last rainy weekend (except transmission, the fluid looked exceedingly fresh so I figured dad must have had it done somewhere just before he passed). Changed motor oil, fuel filter, and differential fluid. In order to change the diff fluid we had to pull the cover, which was fine cause we also cleaned out a boatload of sludge and gave the cover a nice coat of cherry paint. I did my signature “use whatever cans of black rattle cans I have on hand” mod to the rims a day or so before all this.
New tires and axle flip on the 5x8 trailer, led light upgrades, cleaned up the wiring with some split loom and also added a 4-flat trailer connector to the truck.
#HugeDeck has taken a pause to wait for the rest of the materials. Just have a few handrails and a gate to build, some fascia work, a few detail touch ups, and lattice on the underside and it’ll be finally complete.
Was able to jump back on the patio I started over a year ago now. They’re usinsalvaged bricks, it’s coming out pretty decent though I wouldn’t call it perfect. Then again, I’m using salvaged bricks that also aren’t perfect lol. I’ll grab pics when I can.
I had just gotten back to the patio with more sand when my wife said I might wanna come on home because she was feeling like she did in the days leading up to our first daughter’s birth, so I did. Letting her sleep in today and then I’ll decide my day once she wakes up and I can find out how she’s feeling.
Plans in the near future is increasing storage on the ol’ 7.3 so i can use it more. Found pics of a behind-the-seat shelving unit that used to be made and am using that as inspiration to build/have Evan build me one. Lower third of the doors are a blank canvas with a minimum of 3” of clearance so trying to decide what to do on those. Transmission hump is also a blank canvas (automatic with shifter on the column), so I’m contemplating a Milwaukee packout center console. Also plan to add a coolant filter with precharged filters to mitigate cavitation. We shall see how the week goes. Also planning to rig up a filter system with the old fuel/water separator from the truck and a 5 micron whole house water sediment filter to clean waste oil and use as a fuel additive to keep this old engine happy (and maybe save me a few bucks).

Whoops, sorry for the multi post there lol #MyBad
Well, just realized I ain’t took a pic of the #HugeDeck all week. I’ll have to correct that on Monday when I’m back on it. We’re getting real close to being done with, I mean real close. Had to order a few pieces/parts to finish the handrails out. Started working on the fascia for the decking on the ramp and gazebo. And then about all that will be left for me is installing the lattice to hide the underside of the deck.
Then I’ll be on to some other project that I’ll have to find. Got one I need to get back to but it’s not an every day project like this one. Got a person that had contacted me last year about some odd projects and at that time I had zero time available so I’ll probably get in touch with them. May have some other projects coming down the line from this same family but likely not until Novemberish.
Where my attention has really been has been my dad’s old truck. Got all the parts and fluids ordered and all to do an engine oil change and filter, transmission fluid drain and fill (not doing trans filter just yet, just want to get some fresh fluid circulating), differential fluid drain and fill, clean the CDR, and then there’s fuel system. So the truck had a little bit of a lurch, me and Evan are pretty confident it’s old fuel. So I dumped a bottle of Lucas upper cylinder lube in the front tank, then I found a new unused bottle of Mercon V atf in my supplies and dumped it in the rear tank, and then split a bottle of ATF +4 between both tanks. Then, yesterday, when I went to oreilly to order my fuel and oil filters, I grabbed a bottle of diesel Kleen and split it between both tanks. Gonna put on a fresh fuel filter this weekend and once I manage to run both fuel tanks empty and get fresh diesel, I’ll put on another fresh fuel filter. After that I’ll probably change them at 5000 miles, along with my oil changes. Oh, and windshield wipers….I swear my dad had something against being able to see through a windshield in rain…lol

Update: truck is mine and in my yard. Plotting on a full fluid swap soon (not cheap on diesels lol). Transfer went better than I really expected though she did try a minor version of her usual stunts. Either way, time to get my dad’s favorite truck into tip top shape and start doing some upgrades I know he would have loved. So far I’ve only had a near breakdown twice, once right after I got it to my yard and then once last night after I found the carpenters hatchet and quick fist mount I’d cleaned up for him still behind the seat. I can’t explain to any of y’all just how good of a man he was and how much I miss him. I am as hard shelled as I am because I saw him get taken advantage of because he was just too nice lol
Cross your fingers that I manage to get my dad’s truck in my yard without having to call the cops. Me and my mom don’t talk, since before my dad passed, but now she’s trying to buy me back with this truck. Won’t work, but that truck was his favorite and I’m the only one willing to take care of it and pay for diesel to drive it, so damn right I’ll take it. She’s either gonna cause a scene at the plate agency or when I go to get the truck from her house, one or the other is my expectation, but we’ll see.
