Gathered all my components to make a filter system for my waste oil so as to use it as a fuel additive for my inherited 7.3 diesel, and lo and behold I forgot I had to throw away my pvc glue last year because it had dried up in the can. I think I’m
Gonna have to vacuum seal this new can once I use it for this project because it’ll probably be 3 years before I need it again and I’m tired of buying the shit lol.
Also on the agenda today, I cut a couple pieces of plywood last night to stretch across the bed rails of the truck. Going to coat those in waste oil here in just a few and then at some point bolt them to the truck just behind the cab and grab some of the Milwaukee packout mounting plates and a packout cabinet on each side as a quick way to have tool storage. I did the math and I’ll be spending about the same money as if I went and bought some truck boxes, but this way if/when I get around to building my flatbed dream I can reuse the mounting plates and packout boxes instead of having truck boxes laying around.

Few pics from the car hauler gif today. There will quite possibly be more, as we found more issues while working on it.

The work wagons on standby. I’ll be taking the truck today, gotta help Evan on repairing a car hauler. I’ll be the assistant, doing the grinding and rust removal so that he can get them sweet sweet beads laid down. Could I make some pretty welds? Sure, but I’ve spent far too many years not caring about pretty lol. He’s almost OCD about it whereas I’d be saying a lot of “eh, that’s good enough.” Lol

Little bit chilly this morning, had to throw on my lightweight hoodie to go load the trailer for todays job. Rained over night so that didn’t help. I’m ready for fall but hope NC doesn’t pull a fast one on us and go straight to winter lol

So, got to a good stopping point on that patio way sooner than I expected, leaving today (Sunday) clear. It’s also a pretty good chance of rain today so I guess that works out. Wife’s family is giving her a small baby shower for baby 2 (didn’t do a big thing cause we just had a big one literally last year lol), so after about noon I had nothing going on. Hit up my boy Evan last night and we made a plan to try and make some storage behind the seat in the F250. Hopefully it’s something we can put together relatively quickly. The packout fanboy in me was sorely tempted by the idea of mounting a bunch of the packout wall stuff to the back of the cab, but I don’t think that’s quite gonna work for what I want. To me, behind the seat gear is stuff you reach in and grab the item you need, think hammer, jumper cables, gloves, knee pads, struggle sticks (adjustable wrenches) etc. if I did a packout wall, I’d have to hang organizers and stuff and then would have to pull out a whole box, set it down, open and then get the item I need. Shelves are the way to go I believe.

And this is where the patio shall remain until the new pool is put up. Not sure what tomorrow’s plan is, but Monday I gotta go crawl around an attic and move some dirt at another house.

The patio as of yesterday. Just hauled 300 more brick for it today, gotta grab more sand in the morning and then continue on.

I have failed miserably on the picture and posting front this week. So here’s the catch up post.
Dad’s truck: it’s a 1992 Ford F250 7.3 IDI. Changed all the fluids and filters over this last rainy weekend (except transmission, the fluid looked exceedingly fresh so I figured dad must have had it done somewhere just before he passed). Changed motor oil, fuel filter, and differential fluid. In order to change the diff fluid we had to pull the cover, which was fine cause we also cleaned out a boatload of sludge and gave the cover a nice coat of cherry paint. I did my signature “use whatever cans of black rattle cans I have on hand” mod to the rims a day or so before all this.
New tires and axle flip on the 5x8 trailer, led light upgrades, cleaned up the wiring with some split loom and also added a 4-flat trailer connector to the truck.
#HugeDeck has taken a pause to wait for the rest of the materials. Just have a few handrails and a gate to build, some fascia work, a few detail touch ups, and lattice on the underside and it’ll be finally complete.
Was able to jump back on the patio I started over a year ago now. They’re usinsalvaged bricks, it’s coming out pretty decent though I wouldn’t call it perfect. Then again, I’m using salvaged bricks that also aren’t perfect lol. I’ll grab pics when I can.
I had just gotten back to the patio with more sand when my wife said I might wanna come on home because she was feeling like she did in the days leading up to our first daughter’s birth, so I did. Letting her sleep in today and then I’ll decide my day once she wakes up and I can find out how she’s feeling.
Plans in the near future is increasing storage on the ol’ 7.3 so i can use it more. Found pics of a behind-the-seat shelving unit that used to be made and am using that as inspiration to build/have Evan build me one. Lower third of the doors are a blank canvas with a minimum of 3” of clearance so trying to decide what to do on those. Transmission hump is also a blank canvas (automatic with shifter on the column), so I’m contemplating a Milwaukee packout center console. Also plan to add a coolant filter with precharged filters to mitigate cavitation. We shall see how the week goes. Also planning to rig up a filter system with the old fuel/water separator from the truck and a 5 micron whole house water sediment filter to clean waste oil and use as a fuel additive to keep this old engine happy (and maybe save me a few bucks).
