The hyperinflation predictions of about 10-15 years ago actually turned out to be inaccurate I think because the conspiracy crowd overplayed their hand. Basically they ignored that people in the regime may be a bit insane, but they are not actually that stupid, and they can adapt if need be. And they have, although it took them being on the doorstep of hyperinflation before they did. The Fed completely changed its policy since 2021. Now they are letting interest rates normalize, letting money they printed roll off their balance sheet slowly, and they have said they want to get completely out of the business of owning MBS (which they had done since the 2008 crash). The interest rate repression since after 2008 has been reversed. They want to go back to the old way of doing things using "standing repos" (where if banks get in trouble, they can get short-term loans from the Fed at higher interest rates). The regime apparatchiks don't want to move too fast or change things until they have to, but they are not immune to doing so IF it is an existential threat (which I believe it was, to US dollar hegemony, had they failed to address the situation and we got hyperinflation).

I'm on a temporary lapse from my digital detox because I'm getting ready to leave town tomorrow and nothing important is getting done before then anyway. It doesn't mean this is a trend!
