Pair 2024-B Clutch B: Week 5 Update - 479 Fry Raised It became time to move these little dudes into a 10-gallon for more space to swim around. I also need to make room for a few from the other pair that have started free swimming. I had an opportunity to count them during the move process. Four hours later, I am done. Final tally? 479. I have learned through this process that I am terrible at counting large quantities of tiny things that are moving around with any sort of accuracy. I thought I had 100-150. #BlackcellAngelfish #AquariumHobby #Angelfish #AngelfishBreeding #FishBreeding #Fishkeeping #FreshwaterAquarium #PlantedTank

I read a message from someone in a social media platform private group yesterday. They were pointing out some of the many issues with typical social media platforms. I floated the idea of checking out NOSTR and a few inquiring minds asked for an explanation. How did I do #NOSTR? NOSTR is like a simpler and more private version of social media. Instead of big companies controlling the platform, anyone can join, share, and follow others without needing permission. Your posts, called notes, are sent directly through different independent servers, so no single company can block or own your content. You’re in control, and what you share belongs to you. Think of it like sending postcards to friends, but instead of going through one post office that reads and controls everything, you have many small post offices you can choose from — and only your friends see the postcards. But by visiting these small post offices, you find and meet new people with similar interests, exchange information and began exchanging posts cards with them. Your question about different interfaces. Imagine if each post office customer service desk looked and felt different because they were built by people who enjoy contributing to the post office system and have the development skills/time to develop and maintain their version of a post office front desk. The rest of the post office operates the same way, by distributing post cards. But each post office customer service desk can offer a different user experience. NOSTR is like the agreed upon rules the people and post office uses to send and receive postcards. In most social media today, your account belongs to the platform, like Facebook or Instagram. They decide how you log in, what you can post, and whether you stay on their platform. If they want, they can delete your account or restrict your access. NOSTR flips that around. You own your identity. Instead of creating an account with a company, you have a digital key — like your own personal signature. This key is yours, and it lets you access NOSTR from any app that supports it. Since you own the key, no company can ban or delete you, and your connections and content always stay with you, not on some company's servers. It’s like having your own house key instead of renting a room in someone else’s building where they can lock you out whenever they want. I use the front office desk called #Primal. I hope this helps.

Pair 2024-B: New Clutch I was made aware (in a rude way) that the strong pair laid another clutch of eggs. I noticed aggressive behavior over the past day in the tank but did not see eggs on the breeding slates. This pair traversed to the opposite side and hung out in the corner. I was cleaning some gunk off a leaf and one of them darted into my hand with enough force to startle me. I immediately knew there were eggs somewhere and found them a few seconds later. I guess they were tired of me pulling the slate out with their eggs after laying them. I'm still figuring out what I want to do with this batch since the others are doing well and have been a handful. image #BlackcellAngelfish #AquariumHobby #Angelfish #AngelfishBreeding #FishBreeding #Fishkeeping #FreshwaterAquarium #PlantedTank

Pair 2024-B Clutch B: Week 3 Update I stopped posting daily updates because there wasn't much change between days in process or progress and decided to shift to weekly updates until it changes. The new 10gallon aquarium water changes require quite a bit of time. I moved the holding tank to my main tank to help break down waste and prevent ammonia build up. Ammonia buildup was noticeable in the 10 gallon - even with three water changes a day. So far so good. The young angels are growing bigger and it seems they are developing color. There hasn't been an average of 1-2 deaths per day but it seems to have fallen off over the past couple of days. This was likely due to the ammonia build up or just weak fish that could not access food before other fish consumed. #BlackcellAngelfish #AquariumHobby #Angelfish #AngelfishBreeding #FishBreeding #Fishkeeping #FreshwaterAquarium #PlantedTank

I'm reading The Bitcoin Standard by Saif and want to leave my self some mental notes. In The Bitcoin Standard, @Saifedean Ammous explains that salability—the ease of exchanging money without losing value—is the ultimate measure of sound money. Historically, many forms of money failed because they lacked one or more dimensions of salability. Here’s how he frames the three attributes of salability, with examples of past monies that fell short: ------------------------ 1. Salability Across Time (Store of Value) ⮕Attribute: Scarcity + Durability → Retains value over generations. ❌Example of Failure: Fiat Currencies (e.g., Continental Dollar, Zimbabwean Dollar) ❌Lacked Scarcity: Governments inflated supplies, destroying purchasing power. The Continental Dollar, printed excessively during the American Revolution, became nearly worthless (“not worth a Continental”). ❌Lacked Durability: Paper money degrades physically, and trust in issuers erodes over time. Hyperinflation in Zimbabwe (2008) rendered its currency unusable within months. ✅Contrast with Gold/Bitcoin: Gold’s scarcity and corrosion resistance made it salable across millennia. Bitcoin’s digital durability and fixed supply (21 million) replicate this in the modern era. ------------------------ 2. Salability Across Space (Portability) ⮕Attribute: Easy to transport and transfer globally. ❌Example of Failure: Rai Stones (Yap Island) ❌These giant limestone disks were used as money on Yap but were immovable; ownership changed symbolically without physical movement. Their bulkiness made them impractical for trade beyond the island. ❌Other Examples: Gold’s weight made long-distance transport costly and risky before modern banking. ✅Contrast with Bitcoin: As digital money, Bitcoin can cross borders instantly at near-zero cost, solving the portability limitations of physical commodities. ------------------------ 3. Salability Across Scale (Divisibility & Fungibility) ⮕Attribute: Can be used for transactions of any size, and units are interchangeable. ❌Example of Failure: Cattle (Ancient Barter Systems) ❌Lacked Divisibility: A cow cannot be split into smaller units for small purchases without destroying its value. ❌Lacked Fungibility: Individual animals vary in health, age, and quality, making them non-interchangeable. ❌Other Examples: Salt blocks or grain—while divisible, they often degraded (reducing fungibility) or were impractical for large transactions. ✅Contrast with Bitcoin: A single Bitcoin can be divided into 100 million satoshis, enabling microtransactions. ------------------------ Why These Failures Matter Ammous argues that money must excel in all three dimensions of salability to function effectively. Historically, monies like Rai stones, cattle, or fiat failed because they were strong in one attribute (e.g., scarcity for Rai stones) but weak in others (portability, divisibility). Bitcoin’s innovation lies in combining scarcity, durability, portability, and divisibility, making it the first globally salable money without trade-offs. #Bitcoin #TheNewStandard

Pair 2024-B Clutch B: 1/24 The weak pair laid another clutch today. I decided to pull them to raise because they had a higher egg count than previous batches. image #BlackcellAngelfish #AquariumHobby #Angelfish #AngelfishBreeding #FishBreeding #Fishkeeping #FreshwaterAquarium #PlantedTank image

Pair 2024-A Clutch 3: 1/21 Update It feels like we are in a waiting game now. I performed another 4 water changes today and fed 3x. Throughout the day I would disturb the water via water change or baster to move uneaten food into the water column. I'm not sure if they are eating more during that time because everything is tiny. I did find two little dudes that look like they have air filled balloon bellies. I doubt they make it but they are still trying to move around. I'll leave a picture below. I also moved my setup close to my downstairs sink for easier water changes once I move them. Before moving them to the 10 gallon setup I will place in a small plastic container fixed up with dowel rods to hold above water and mesh net over holes I drilled in the bottom. The thought here is that I can keep them confined to easily find food while agitating a bit for uneaten food to fall through the bottom for cleanup during water changes. I also positioned a breeder box upside down over the air stone to prevent splashing. #BlackcellAngelfish #AquariumHobby #Angelfish #AngelfishBreeding #FishBreeding #Fishkeeping #FreshwaterAquarium #PlantedTank

🌲💲❗It seems flippant that the Bank of England commemorates the history of paper money after the #bitcoin 💡 turned on. Mulberry bark was used to make paper money in China, starting around the 10th century. The Chinese emperor Kublai Khan officially declared that stamped mulberry bark notes were legal tender. The value of the notes came from the government's authority, not the material itself. How it worked *The notes were stamped, sealed, and considered to be as valuable as gold or silver. *The notes were issued with great ceremony and authority. *Counterfeiters were threatened with execution. What Marco Polo thought *The Venetian merchant Marco Polo was astonished to see mulberry bark money when he visited Kublai Khan's court in the 13th century. *Polo thought the currency was a conspiracy that allowed the emperor to accumulate wealth cheaply. What it meant for the future *The use of mulberry bark money paved the way for paper money. *The Chinese system of paper money anticipated European currency systems by almost 600 years. What it means today The Bank of England has four mulberry trees in the courtyard of its Head Office in London to commemorate the history of paper money.
