Been researching some family history the past few months and a few things immediately jumped out at me when looking at history before the 1900s, most of which I already knew but still found interesting:
- Very few men had an education but were still able to make a good living doing manual labor jobs with a wife and 7 children back home.
- People used to have WAY more children than today.
- Divorce was basically nonexistent.
- Pretty much all married women were housewives. I can’t find one that had a job.
- People lived very communally. Families stuck together and lived in the same town for multiple generations.
I’m not saying the past is some sort of utopia because they had plenty of their own problems, but it is interesting to ponder.
