If salvation were up to Man, then all would fail to obtain or keep hold of it.
Calvinism, which takes God's word literally, concludes that once God has selected someone to be His, that He will not fail to draw them into Christ, where they will obtain salvation.
The alternative is that God can fail to bring about His elect people. That Christ can fail to save you by faith alone unless you perform additional and ongoing works to justify your salvation.
"God would *like* to save you if only you would let him. God saves as many as he can. *shrug*." 🙄
That is not what the Bible teaches.
God can save you even if you do not plan on it or seek Him out. In a certain sense, God can violate your free will, instilling in you a change of heart that makes His grace irrestible.
God can make you a Christian. God can keep the faith within you, even allowing for torture and martyrdom, as was the case with the apostles.
