Recently relocated to a country where an uber ride is a 4 digit number, eating out is a 5 digit number and booking a flight is a 6 digit number in their local currency. The local inflation/interests rates are fairly stable, and it has been this way for a long time, or at least long enough for people to forget how ludicrous it is saving their hard earned money in a bank and earning at best 0.3%. A 'stable inflation rate' today is compounded on years, decades of variable inflation that erodes away the value of said currency. Wages don't follow this, savings don't follow this. But how do you even begin explaining this to someone during a short encounter? I remember when I started learning on my own 6 years ago and told my inner circle "did you know fractional reserve banking is when they lend 90% of your deposited money for someone at a much higher interest rate than what you get with your fake digits on your bank app?" At the time this close person did seem to understand, and even mentioned it back to me in front of others at a much later date. But they still have no done anything about it and things just seem 'to get harder and harder' for them without making that association. This is why as of late I have been more direct with non-negotiable terms: - Want to work for me, well I only pay in Monero $XMR - Want me to fix your computer? I will flash it with Linux first - Want me to add an eSIM for your travel plans? Pay silent[dot]link with $XMR - Want me to suggest or add an app on your phone? FOSS only. - AI Agents? Venice inference API credits with crypto + Hermes/OpenClaw or small AnythingLLM local AI. Happy to help others. Now on my terms. Bees don't waste time telling flies not to smell shit.
