“London Stock Exchange Group to launch a service enabling institutional clients to take leveraged bets on bitcoin. The bitcoin-denominated futures and options would be bought and sold by investment banks, hedge fund managers and asset managers. By using a clearing house like LCH, the risk that counterparties to a trade could go bust and renege is largely eliminated. The LSEG/GFO-X move follows a scramble to offer bitcoin trading to wholesale investors, with US rival CME Group already offering bitcoin futures and options, while another US exchanges group CBOE has acquired a digital asset exchange, ErisX. Deutsche Boerse’s Eurex platform is also due to launch bitcoin related derivatives trading shortly.”

This is a an interesting interview with Daniel Yergin the author of The New Map: Energy, Climate, and the Clash of Nations about witnessing the beginning of the end of the dollar’s supremacy? “Historically, the United States punished nations that tried to trade oil using currencies other than the US dollar. But recently it has not been able to stop countries from branching out and making deals in other currencies. Russia and China are leading the charge, but more countries may be jumping on the bandwagon, including Brazil and Saudi Arabia.”

This is thought provoking🧐. “Developing advanced AI systems requires huge capital, scientific resources, best talent, vast amounts of data and computing power — resources that “industry actors inherently possess in greater amounts compared to non-profits and academia”. Last year, industry released 32 major machine learning models, whereas academia produced only three. Until 2014, academia was producing important machine learning simulations or projects, but industry has taken over since then, the report found.”
