“Coffeehouse Price Hammer
A few days ago, I went to a Viennese coffeehouse with a valued acquaintance. In the 25 years since I've lived in Austria, I've been there many times. Shortly after we took our seats, I happened to overhear a couple at the neighboring table paying. It was 120 euros. A few hours later, our bill arrived: three coffees, one espresso, two cakes, two waters, for a total of 64 euros.
The inflation is unbelievable. The causes are primarily brought about by our politics. But that's exactly what's not being discussed at all, so that this policy of the systematic impoverishment of people can continue unabated. The increasing reporting obligations for companies alone, and punitive taxes for the green re-education of the general public, account for a very significant portion of the inflation.
According to the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, a small Viennese coffeehouse with an annual turnover of 300,000 euros incurs costs of about 30,000 euros per year just for official reporting obligations. If one were to abolish solely the CO₂ punitive taxes and CO₂ penalty levies for the use of the highly efficient energy raw materials coal, oil, natural gas, diesel, and gasoline—which, in truth, will never have even the slightest effect on the global temperature—one could immediately halve the inflation just through that. That would immediately help the economy and the people and make Austria significantly more attractive again.”
