Sometimes men are tested by pleasure, sometimes by distress or by physical suffering. By means of His prescriptions the Physician of souls administers the remedy according to the cause of the passions lying hidden in the soul. ☦️St. Maximus the Confessor

Man feels that he is eternal, but since this feeling is corrupted by his deceptive reason and by his corrupted and false conscience, he tends to think of his life on earth as something that will go on for ever. On the basis of his beguiling, false, and destructive feelings, man devotes himself exclusively to cares and labors devoted to establishing himself on earth. He forgets that he is but a passing pilgrim here, and that his enduring abode will be either heaven or hell. If he misuses for temporal gains the time given to him for repentance and for gaining a blessed eternity, he will be unable to get another span of time for a second chance. ☦️St. Ignatius Brianchaninov

Holy Hieromartyr Ignatius the Godbearer According to tradition, Saint Ignatius was the little child that Christ held in his arms when He said Whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven [Matthew 18:4]. Ignatius was a disciple of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John and became the second Bishop of Antioch. He governed the Church as a good shepherd and was the first to introduce antiphonal chanting with two alternating choirs, a method revealed to him by angels. When the Christ-hating Emperor Trajan passed through Antioch, he offered to make Ignatius a senator if only he would sacrifice to idols. Rejecting the blasphemy, Ignatius was shackled and sent to Rome to be thrown to wild beasts. Rejoicing in his suffering for the Lord, the saint prayed that nothing would interfere with his martyrdom. In the arena, the lions tore him to pieces leaving only his heart, upon which the pagans found inscribed in gold the Name: Jesus Christ. Saint Ignatius joined God in the year 107. image

As Fr. Seraphim spiritually soared in the desert, his soul drank from the fount of grace in the Church: from the Church’s Divinely inspired Scriptures, and from the true interpreters of Scripture, the Holy Fathers. “In the Holy Fathers,” he wrote, “we find the ‘mind of the Church’—the living understanding of God’s revelation. They are our link between the ancient texts which contain God’s revelation [i.e., the Holy Scriptures] and today’s reality. Without such a link it is every man for himself — and the result is a myriad of interpretations and sects.” In another place, Fr. Seraphim quoted from the Patristic theologian Archbishop Theophan of Poltava to elucidate this point: “The Church is the house... of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth (I Tim. 3:15). Christian truth is preserved in the Church in the Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition; but it requires a correct preservation and a correct interpretation. The significance of the Holy Fathers is to be found precisely in this: that they are the most capable preservers and interpreters of this truth by virtue of the sanctity of their lives, their profound knowledge of the word of God, and the abundance of the grace of the Holy Spirit which dwells in them.” -Father Seraphim Rose: His Life and Works, Ch. 59 “The Mind of the Fathers”

"Orthodoxy is not merely a “tradition” like any other, a “handing down” of spiritual wisdom from the past; it is God’s Truth here and now—it gives us immediate contact with God such as no other tradition can do... the full Truth is only in Christianity, God’s revelation of Himself to mankind." image ☦️ Blessed Seraphim of Platina

“With us everything should be secondary compared to our concern with children, and their upbringing in the instruction and teaching of the Lord.” ☦️Saint John Chrysostomos “When your children are still small, you have to help them understand what is good. That is the deepest meaning of life.” ☦️Saint Paisios image
