“In the last times, the followers of the Antichrist will go to church, be baptized and preach the gospel commandments. But do not believe those who do not have good deeds. Only by deeds can a true Christian be recognized. True faith is in the heart, not in the mind. The Antichrist will be followed by the one who has faith in the mind, and he will be recognized by the one who has faith in the heart." ☦️Venerable Gabriel of Georgia image

Be kinder than necessary because everyone is fighting their war or battle and suffering losses. Live simply, love generously, care deeply for the needs of your neighbour, speak softly... And leave the rest to the Lord. It is not faith, nor dogmatics, nor mysticism, nor ascetism, nor fasting, nor long prayers, but love that makes one a true Christian. Everything becomes pointless without this fundamental thing - love for our neighbour. ☦️ St. Luke the Surgeon image

Started this up! If you haven't read about St. John... Do so. He has a great polemic on the Orthodox veneration of the Mother of God (short read too) that could help some of you Protestant brothers and sisters get past that particular stumbling block 🙏☦️ image

image Today we commemorate the triumph of Orthodoxy! On the first Sunday of Great Lent, we celebrate the Triumph of Orthodoxy over iconoclasm, the destruction of religious icons in the Church. During the services this weekend, we commemorate the restoration of icons for use in our services and in the private devotional lives of Orthodox Christians. In this post, we take a deeper look into iconoclasm and the importance of its defeat in the history of the Orthodox Faith. Iconoclasm, at its heart, denies the incarnation of the God-Man.

The first Sunday of Lent is the Sunday of Orthodoxy. In many parishes, the faithful bring icons from home and carry them in a procession around the church. On the veneration of icons: "I worship the God who has saved me, who became material for my sake. And I do not cease to venerate the matter through which I have been saved and which is filled with divine grace". ☦️St. John Damascene

Elder Paisios once asked a group of people who gathered around the courtyard of his cell. "Who is the greatest enemy of Orthodoxy"? The people gave many answers. The Holy elder was silent for a while and then said. "The greatest enemy of Orthodoxy is ourselves. If we lived truly Orthodox we would have transformed the whole world and everyone would believe in Christ" image
