Today In History On March 31, 1774, the British Parliament passed the Boston Port Act, the first of what were known as the Intolerable Acts against the American colonies. The measure sought to close the port until the residents of Boston paid for the tea that had been tossed in the harbor as part of the Boston Tea Party four months earlier.
