Happy 4th of July to my fellow Americans! And, happy weekend to everyone else. Today has been a greatly productive day. Go l finished my automated irrigation system for the garden, canned 9 pints of cucumbers into dill pickles, transferring my hefeweisen beer to secondary. Tonight, neighbors are coming over for a burger burn and afterwards we're going to watch 'The Patriot'. Happy fourth! image

Today in History On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted Richard Henry Lee’s resolution for independence. The vote was unanimous, with the New York delegation abstaining. Quote-Unquote "The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. ... You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means." – John Adams Letter to Abigail Adams, July 3, 1776

Today In History On June 29, 1776, delegates to the fifth Revolutionary Convention in Virginia adopted the state's first independent constitution and selected Patrick Henry as their governor. He was sworn in on July 6, 1776. Quote-Unquote "Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is impossible that a nation of infidels or idolaters should be a nation of freemen. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom. No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; and by a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles." – Patrick Henry
