📣 Plaza v0.11.0 is out. 🎉 I've been building a native Nostr client for macOS, written in Zig. It's fast, it keeps its own copy of your feed, and it has come a long way since the first release. Here's what has landed. 📖 Reading ◈ Your feed reaches people your own relays don't carry ◈ Nobody you follow goes missing, wherever they publish ◈ Threads open properly, and a missing parent says so ◈ Reactions, replies and zap totals arrive with the feed ◈ Mentions are people you can click ✍ Writing ◈ Post, reply, quote and repost ◈ See who a note will notify, and switch anyone off ◈ Hashtags become real tags ◈ Replies reach everyone in the thread 🖼 Pictures ◈ Notes with several photos show all of them ◈ Big photos load now ◈ Faces and profile banners too ◈ The image proxy can be switched off completely 🔑 Your key ◈ Held in its own process, away from the screen ◈ Stored in the macOS Keychain, not a plain file ◈ Paste an nsec straight into a terminal, never through the app ◈ Read everything without a key at all 🔐 Signing for other apps ◈ Plaza can be your bunker: paste the link into any client and sign there ◈ Every app is asked separately for each thing it wants to do ◈ Answers last as long as you say: once, a day, always, or no ◈ Everything connected is listed, and cuttable ◈ Survives a restart, same link 📡 Relays ◈ A dead connection is noticed and redialled ◈ Every background request has a deadline ◈ No more pointless reconnects ⚙ Making it yours ◈ Reaction, repost, reply and zap counts can each be hidden ◈ Your mute list is read and honoured, and you can mute from here 227 pull requests to get here, 100 of them since the first release. Announcing Plaza, a native Nostr client for macOS. 🎉 I built it because I wanted a feed that is already there when the window opens. Plaza keeps your notes in a local database and draws from disk first, then lets the relays catch up behind you. A feed query takes 0.28ms, so there is nothing to wait for. I wrote it in Zig. No Electron, no WebView, no browser hiding in the binary. It opens straight into a feed as well, with no sign-up or welcome wall, because reading Nostr never needed a key. Your key can stay out of it entirely if you want. Sign through Notary over NIP-46 and Plaza never sees it. Notary signs for other clients too, so it can be your signer everywhere rather than only here. It is early, and I would rather say so than have you find out: no DMs, no zaps, no search yet. If you are on macOS, tell me what breaks. And if you are not: what does your current client get wrong?

Signet is now Notary. "Signet" already means a Bitcoin test network. "Notary" means something that holds your seal, never gives it away, and signs when you say so. That was always the more honest word for it. Same software, new name.

plaza is coming together. It feels cleaner, calmer, and a lot nicer to use now. still plenty to tweak, but I'm really happy with where it’s headed.

spent half a week to polish #plaza's design. from this, to this. whatcha think?

gm nostr ☀ conversations work in #plaza now. tap a note, read the thread, reply from a pinned composer. the reply is a proper NIP-10 kind:1 that landed on damus with the root marker where it belongs. watched the reply count tick from 1 to 2 and felt things.

you should never paste your secret key into a desktop client. #plaza lets you bring your key in with one terminal command.

#plaza is getting a built-in signer, #signet. anything that touches your key happens in signet's own process, never in the client. when you import a key you already have, the client never sees it. it goes straight into the signer. that's finally true, not just a slogan.

the signer's core, the part that guards your key and signs, is moving into my open nostr library. so any zig client can build on it, not just mine.
