⚠️A tax number is not a domicile.
The first review is the hard one. Expect that and don’t half ass it!
Keep backup documents and enough material to prove your claim without improvising.
Show that your life actually sits in the country. You rent something, you own something, you built something. Presence has a shape and layers.
A tax ID with nothing behind it is dead paper. No contracts, no incoming or outgoing payments, no rent, no vehicle, no insurance, no local number, no regular spending. If you cannot point to somewhat trail, you do not have a position.
I tell to many rookies - do not overbuild this. Keep a simple file. Organized. Straight. No theater, no fugazi. Stupid fugazi era is finished.
Does the structure change the outcome? It just turns the punk version of the game into a game you can actually defend.
No tears. Layers.

From 11 January 2027, a bank outside the EEA generally cannot take your deposits, lend to you, or issue you guarantees unless it has a licensed branch in the country where you live.
The rule is Article 21c of CRD VI. It hits the bank, not you. The result for you is the same: the offshore current account you planned to open in Singapore, Dubai, Hong Kong or Panama may simply get a “we don’t onboard EEA residents” reply.
Residence decides this. Not your citizenship. An EU citizen living in Latin America is outside the rule. A Brazilian with a Lisbon lease is inside it. Residence matters, not citizenship.
This is not a ban on foreign brokers, payment apps or crypto platforms. Those sit under other regimes. This one is about core banking: cash accounts, loans, mortgages, guarantees.
The dates that matter
11 July 2026: grandfathering cutoff.
11 January 2027: the ban on new cross-border core banking without a local branch.
If the account existed before 11 July 2026 and you have not rewritten the contract, it can usually keep running. Amend it, renew it, add a new loan or a new product line, and you may have turned old business into new business.
A branch in Germany does not cover a client in Portugal. There is no EU passport for these third-country branches. One country, one licence unfortunately.
What will actually happen
You will not get a letter from Brussels. You will get a bank email.
Many non-EU banks will not spend compliance time proving “reverse solicitation” on a €40k account. They will close the front door. Some will keep the old relationship frozen = no new products. Some groups will push you into their EU subsidiary, with EU KYC, EU reporting, and a thinner product list.
Do this week
List every non-EEA cash account, private-bank relationship, credit line and guarantee. Write the open date, last amendment, and the residence you declared on the file.
Mark anything opened or changed on or after 11 July 2026. Those files are the weak ones.
Email the bank: Given my residence in [country], will you still service this relationship after 11 January 2027? Are you relying on grandfathering, reverse solicitation, or an EU branch/subsidiary?
Do not “refresh” a grandfathered mandate.
Open a working EEA account now if you have to. Or move your residence outside the EU, now! Do not wait for an off-boarding letter and without optionality.
Keep investment and cash separate in your head. A non-EU broker may still be usable under MiFID rules (MiFID II is the EU licence regime for investment services, not for ordinary bank deposits or loans, which is why those investing activities sit outside the 2027 CRD VI branch ban).
A non-EU current bank account is the product this rule was written to catch and eliminate, not an investment brokerage account.
What is not a workaround
Putting the account in a relative’s name or a nomad visa plus an EU rent/apartment. A UK or Swiss bank assumed to be “close enough.” The UK and Switzerland are third countries for this purpose (non-EU).
Paper residence in a country you do not inhabit is a weak defense if your life, lease and tax file still sit in the EU.
If you actually leave the EEA, the banking problem disappears. This only works if the new residence is real outside the EEA. Temporary visas in Thailand, Malaysia or even the UAE are not the best. You need a solid paper work to justify your claims, do it properly, it can be done.
What to expect after January
More offshore banks will publish a one-line policy: no EEA residents. Existing accounts that survive will go static. National supervisors will not apply the rule identically in every country for a while. Plan for friction, especially in the beginning.
If the amounts are large you should have the structure, battle plan and how you will navigate this. Do not wait till January 2027. You can protect it via separate vehicle protecting your cash balance, you can change your residence outside the EU, or you need to plan and comply if you stick with EU residence.
The move is boring: know which contracts/accounts are already safe, stop poking into grandfathered ones, put daily cash spending inside the EEA (if you have to live in the EU). Treat any new offshore deposit account as unlikely unless the bank already has a branch in your member state. Or you can plan for a better strategy with residence permits and life outside the EEA.

Don’t trust. Verify.
A lot of “influencers” in #Bitcoin
have shown just how shallow their knowledge really is. It’s honestly mind-boggling there are people out here recommending products, setups, strategies, and “must-dos” they clearly have no real understanding of.
When the latest events hit, it felt surreal, some influencers were doing their first bitcoin transactions ever….Then the timeline filled with panic, confusion, and people publicly asking for help.
There’s nothing wrong with that, we’re all learning, and asking questions is normal. There’s nothing like a stupid question.
But if you’re positioning yourself as someone others should listen to, you don’t get to act like a complete newbie the moment the rubber meets the road.
That pattern forces a hard question: how much of this “influencing” is just money incentive with almost no study, time, or actual thought put into what’s being promoted?
It brings us straight back to square one. Don’t trust. Verify.
There’s a day-and-night difference between people who talk like seasoned Bitcoiners “selling XYZ to bunch of noobs” and what happens when shit actually hits the fan. That’s the moment the real knowledge (or the total absence of it) becomes visible. Naked.
I’m all for people doing what they love. Follow your passion. Stay on fire. That energy is valuable. But from an influencing perspective, a lot of this creates more harm than good. A uneducated influencer who’s only one chapter ahead (if that) recommending concrete steps to other newbies is not education. It’s just noise with a bigger megaphone.
Money has crippled the influencing space. Not only Bitcoin industry. You see the same pattern everywhere. Once someone has reach, the offers start coming. Doesn’t matter if they’re good or bad at what they claim to know. Bills need paying, so many accept. I don’t blame every single person for that because it’s a two-sided problem.
I want people to prosper. I also think influencers need to stay on the ground, keep critical thinking alive, and carry actual accountability. Some do. You can feel the difference. Others clearly don’t give a shit. That internal accountability is what will sort the field over time.
Everyone loves talking about autonomy in bitcoin. Far fewer live it.
Freedom without responsibility is just cosplay.
Freedom of movement under the attack 🥷

How US Special Forces Infiltrated Venezuela?
The CIA tracked his 'Pattern of Life', what he ate, what he wore, and exactly where he slept.
They didn't just guess; they knew. Back in the US, Delta Force built an exact replica of his safe house, rehearsing the raid until they could do it blindfolded.
And the blowtorches? Those were for the panic room. Intelligence knew Maduro slept behind bank-vault-style steel doors. The team brought heavy-duty thermal cutters to burn him out.
But in the end, speed was their weapon. Operators breached the room so fast, they caught him before he could even lock the door.
A couple of thoughts on Venezuela 🇻🇪, in no particular order and for no specific reason.
- Well-prepared and rehearsed multi-agency assault.
- Signal to Russia and China in the form of a “military show of force and intelligence operation.”
- Bukele likely played his part by exchanging roughly 250 Tren de Aragua cartel members for 10 imprisoned US citizens, removing potential US hostage blackmail leverage. This dates back to July 2025 as preparatory steps for successful execution.
- Maduro was offered an exit (and safe haven) but acted cocky, with no contingency plan. He also overestimated the capabilities of Russian and Chinese military defense systems “sold” to Venezuela compared to available US capabilities.
- Maduro underestimated intelligence operators and assets in the country + probable leaks in his closest circles.
- The Cuban regime is in big trouble. Its only real ally was Venezuela, which supplied “free” oil and resources in exchange for medical and military personnel stationed there. Now the Cuban regime will face hard times without regional support, and its other allies are distant and won’t make the difference.
- Maduro’s removal from Venezuela will also affect Russia, as it will lose the ability to sell “laundered” Russian oil through this proxy. Russia still sells oil through other proxies but Venezuela was significant.
