There are private conversations happening as we speak between core developers discussing how to diffuse the situation to quiet the dissent. Not an acknowledgement that they did anything wrong, but a discussion about quieting the plebs.

Government subsidy can benefit a company/product/service in the short term. But, without fail, they lower the quality over time. This includes planes, cars, education, healthcare, roads, etc.
