Tracking day today! The hunter shot a buck with a muzzleloader. Had ok blood. He knew he injured the front leg. Lost blood. Called us. We came out 4.5 hrs later. There was a monster buck out near the hit site when we arrived. He ran off in the same direction the injured deer went. Anyway, we started tracking and pip pulled hard all the way. But i became concerned when she appeared to be tracking the buck we just saw (very fresh tracks). I restarted her but she pulled me in the same direction so i gave her the benefit of the doubt. Sure enough she found several blood spots a while later and deer did a big loop in the woods before coming out to a field and continuing along the edge. Approaching a thick wet area, we flushed 3 does. Pip went a little crazy. So i restarted her and also told the hunters to be ready. I suspected the buck might have bedded with the does and was reluctant to move. We continued on. I had to restart pip again because i thought she was distracted by the doe scent, but she brought me back to the same spot again and further she pulled on! Finally we came a small pond with thick cover and pip pull me through it. She flushed a deer out and a second later i heard a gunshot. The buck was down! Total track length was 1.3 km. #huntstr #hunting
