I drink tea and I learn things
I’m starting to think the most important thing you learn as an engineer is familiarity with unknowns. Specifically how to know when you don’t know something and how to handle yourself in the face of unknowns.
Question for android users: Can you immediately tell when an app is using a web view instead of native scrolling? On iOS I can immediately tell when I’m using a web view and it feels horrible. Is it something Apple does to discourage web apps or is there something inherently worse about webviews?
Does anybody know anything about the shape of the FedNow API? I’m guessing it’s very hush hush at this point but it can’t hurt to ask. In my eyes knowing what the API looks like is the only way to separate fact from FUD.
Security recommendations to not run containers as root are outdated now that it’s relatively easy to run the docker daemon in rootless mode. Always being root is one of the great joys of containerization and partly what gives it its development efficiency. Security people please don’t take that away from developers.
A message for those of you who pushed for masks and vaccines: We know who you are. We forgive you but we will never forget.
Is math invented or discovered? I find myself in the invented camp these days. Math doesn’t “exist” in the same way as a physical object like a rock. If humans never existed math would not exist but a rock still would. Also math is not as objective as most people think it is. It’s our collective best attempt to describe the complex phenomena that we observe but it’s not the thing itself.
AI is being setup as the perfect scapegoat for the next big crash. Just like Covid, it can be cast as an invisible enemy except this time the internet is where it spreads. It can be used to explain currency collapses and justify draconian measures like the RESTRICT act and CBDCs. I really hope I’m not the only one seeing this.
