The inevitable trade-off, however, is that user accounts could gravitate toward a few "Big Tech"-style hubs within the ecosystem. Fortunately, Nostr's underlying threshold cryptography ensures that switching providers won't even require exporting a raw private key. Migrating between platforms comes with a lot of challenges. For instance, an Instagram data export generates a ~600MB zip file, and processing that entirely in the browser is incredibly resource-consuming. To mitigate this, I switched to a slightly more manual approach: the user unzips the archive themselves and simply selects the folder to start the transfer. However, the exported images are usually in HEIC format, meaning I have to convert them on the fly. I'm honestly not sure how an average user's device will handle this, as even my own computer experiences performance drops. Does anyone have recommendations or best practices for efficiently processing ~600MB of local data in the user's browser to convert everything into Nostr events?
