Shots Fired at Police ... Preliminary Statement on Police-Involved Shooting in the 7900 block of S. Ingleside Southside Chicago
On Friday, January 23, 2026, at approximately 7:49 p.m., uniformed 6th (Gresham) District Chicago Police Department officers responded to the 7900 block of S. Ingleside for a call of a domestic disturbance involving a male armed with a gun and a knife. As officers arrived, the armed offender attempted to flee and fired a weapon in the direction of officers. Two officers then discharged their service weapons, striking the offender.
The offender sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and officers rendered aid on scene. The offender was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition and remains in custody. A firearm was recovered on scene. Both officers were transported to a local hospital for observation and are listed in good condition.
Prior to officers arriving on scene, the offender shot a 23-year-old female victim at a residence at the above location. The female victim sustained two gunshot wounds to the right arm and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital and is listed in good condition. The Investigative Response Team is on-scene.
Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department.
The officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a minimum period of 30 days. This matter remains under investigation and all further inquiries can be directed to the Civilian Office of Police Accountability at (312) 746-3609.
