Book Insights on Boredom 👇
„Tolstoy had this great quote in Anna Karenina that says boredom is a ‚desire for desires‘. So boredom is a motivational state.
The hours of attention we are giving to digital media isn‘t free. It‘s all spent in focused mode. Think of this focused state like lifting a weight and the unfocused state like resting. When we kill our boredom by burying our minds in a phone, TV or computer, our brain is putting forth a shocking amount of effort and we overwork it.
Our collective lack of boredom may be causing us to reach near-crisis level of mental fatigue. Overworked, undermaintained minds are linked to depression, life dissatisfaction, the perception that life goes by quicker, and increasingly missing the beauty of life that only presents itself when we allow our mind to wander and be aware of something other than a screen.“
From: The Comfort Crisis by Michael Easter
How are you dealing with boredom? Trying to push it away and be busy or allow your mind to wander?

Have a look at how a self-sovereign super-human intelligence can look like in the future in this fireside chat with Paolo Ardoino from Tether and Marcus Gerhardt, CEO and Co-founder of Blackrock Neurotech.
Elon Musk with his company Neuralink are pioneers in this field and that this technology will advance more, likely also in non-patient users, is certain. Paolo/Tether now invested in Blackrock Neuralink to be at the forefront of this technology and ensure how it can be advanced in an ethical way that supports agency and control so that we can continue to own our thoughts, data and decisions.
Super scary thought for me as I don‘t want a chip implanted in my brain - what do you think?

This is in my X feed today! Dystopian developments from Germany/EU:
1. Reversal of proof: Anyone who owns assets with unclear origins will in the future have to prove that the money was acquired legally. So much for the right of ownership and the presumption of innocence that used to be the foundation.
2. The EU also wants to introduce a minimum age for social media and could mandate digital IDs.
3. From 2030, driving licenses will be digital, and traffic violations will apply across the EU.
Does anyone else feel that things are accelerating?

I’m turning 41, but I don’t feel like celebrating.
Our generation is running out of time to save the free Internet built for us by our fathers...

Playing the Blockhunters game with @emily. Good fun 😁.

Seeing Steven Bartlett in Bali was amazing 🤩.
He shared that instead of trying to predict what will change in the future, we should think about what likely won’t.
Even in the age of AI, one thing seems certain: our desire to connect face-to-face. If anything, technology may make in-person connection even more valuable, serving as an antidote to digital interactions.
That’s why human skills like empathy, communication, collaboration are only becoming more important.

Legend.
