⚡️🇯🇵 NEW - Japan is asking the Trump administration to stop using Mario, Pokémon, Naruto, and other Japanese intellectual property in its political memes.
For several months now, official U.S. accounts have been misusing Japanese characters and franchises to accompany political, military, or immigration-related messages.
Tokyo says it has repeatedly conveyed its concerns to Washington regarding the unauthorized use of these copyrighted works.
The controversy erupted in particular after a video from the Department of Homeland Security mixed Pokémon with ICE operations: “Gotta Catch ’Em All.”
The Pokémon Company confirmed that it had not given its permission.
The situation took on new significance after Donald Trump shared an AI-generated video in June depicting him as Naruto.
