What are some misconceptions or areas of confusion people have around the Taproot upgrade?
For example, itβs actually three things:
1. Schnorr,
2. Taproot,
3. Tapscript
I was today years old when learned the Taproot part of the upgrade is not just the idea of using Merkle trees (to only revealing spending paths used).
Itβs a technique (using a public key and a Merkle tree) to make a coin spendable by either public key OR script. You canβt do any of this without Schnorr, at least not in a way that is remotely reasonable.
I think itβs very confusing that the entire upgrade, the entire package of things, is named after a single feature, even if it is the one that ties everything together into a nice, impressive use case!
There are plenty of interesting things about the Schnorr and Tapscript components, but they are often referred to as general βtaprootβ in discussion.

My take on maximalism is there is still far too much important, interesting, and challenging work to do in Bitcoin to place my attention elsewhere. Maybe one day that will change, especially as I spend more time in the space, but so far this rabbit hole seems to have no end.

Anyone have good materials on decentralization in bitcoin they can share?
I'm looking for concise examples and reasons why it's important. Why bitcoin cannot function correctly without this important property.
