humanity is 300k years old and we've been online for only 30 years.
the erosion of privacy today will have lasting consequences for hundreds, maybe thousands of years to come. if we don't fight for privacy today, we won't be able to fix it in the distant future.
this scares me.
an ecash mint with full KYC still has vastly better privacy than a normal custodian, the mint still can't steal your ecash, it still can't prevent you from making payments, and it still doesn't know your balance.
it's unintuitive at first but it's true if you think about how ecash works: the transactions themselves happen peer to peer and the mint can't correlate inputs to outputs.
still fascinating to me.
measuring the number of nostr users is incredibly hard. platforms like X can measure the number of lurkers (people who only read but never post). on nostr we can't do that.
typically there's a ratio of 90-9-1 in social media platforms: 90% only read, 9% like and comment, 1% produce content.
bitchat android alone has twice the number of daily active users than what is reported about nostr. but every bitchat user is also a nostr user. bitchat iOS has even more users. imagine all the other apps that use nostr but not in a way that is picked up by the statistics.
Soon you'll be able to leave ratings for bitcoin mints issuing untraceable ecash on an uncensorable communication protocol.
Cashu + Nostr is a dream team.
