Thinking back on my childhood and teenage years. We had a TV in every room. I had one, my brother's had each their own. Those boxes were constantly on, even for background noise. I liked watching TV, especially Simpsons and a documentary show called Galileo. "I'm getting smarter" I told myself. But over the years the quality of Galileo dropped significantly. At some point they carved out a whole section for a fat guy called Jumbo reporting on the biggest junk food he could eat. I got really frustrated with this enshittification. When I saw a Jumbo special announced, I was around 18 years old, and I finally decided to switch off the TV for good. So, I guess thank you Jumbo for pushing me over the edge and never wanting to watch TV again ๐Ÿซก image
They are reporting about floods again, like they happen anywhere every year. I noticed these patterns: - it's the weather's fault - we didn't see that coming - it's climate change > we need to reduce CO2 emissions - no real solutions proposed to mitigate floods And then I remember another popular news item: drought. - our water storages are depleting - imposing water use restrictions on the population - it's climate change > we need to reduce CO2 emissions - let's build a super canal to fork off water from another place - uhh, mAyBe if wE cuT dOWn 30% of tHe tReEs we cAn collEct moRe rAIn WAteR; those damn trees are totally stealing our water! It's either too much water or too little. Oh no! In both cases, there's not even the slightest talk in MM about reforestation efforts. Among a vast array of benefits they also could mitigate both of the aforementioned issues: floods and droughts. Forests can be responsible for creating up to 2/3 of the inland rains. Yes, trees create rain through evapo-transpiration! They do that by slowing down the rain water and storing it within the soil, the pump it back up through their natural processes.
> "I think, that for every place on earth, there are a few trees shrubs or plants, that like to grow there, and do so abundantly, without any human help. They can be used to cover the ground, lower the ground temperature, improve the soil (create organic matter), and provide the conditions needed to plant other variety of trees." โ€“ Konstantinos Karoubas #growNostr #growTrees #stun #sheerTotalUtterNeglect
It's simple to use images for tracking purposes (which is why many email clients hide images by default) More use (benign) cases with sharing images on nostr I can think of - analytics (how many times has my post been seen? What countries do my users live in? What clients do they use?) - A/B testing: display 2 different images and see which has a better engagement rate - put image behind a paywall (zap post to see image) - localisation ( for text inside image, determine most likely language user is using) - experiments (e.g. display different images based on readable metrics, e.g. display โœจ for Amethyst users and ๐Ÿ’ฉ for all others) - countdown (use a gif and the current date to display a countdown animation that always stays up to date) - display real time data View quoted note โ†’
