Protocols are important in a network. Yet they put the network in a gridlock so nodes could not evolve independently; Protocols are NOT as important as you might think in a computer because apps are agnostic to what protocols are running underneath. What’s important is that all users of a computer have an unique 🆔, a private data vault. They can communicate with each other and share data at their own discretion. In other words, the real issue is about turning the #Web3 into a decentralized World Computer. See Elastos. For any computer, there’s an operating system (OS). A World Computer is no exception. If both users (or nodes) speak English (TCP/IP or #Nostr or #ActivityPub), they can communicate with English. It’s called protocol negotiation which is conducted by none other than the OS. It’s important to replace HTTP/HTTPS with a decentralized #Web3 protocol, eg, #Nostr or #ActivityPub. It’s more critical to create a #Web3 OS, eg, #Elastos, to hide all protocols all together, so that the #Web can evolve continuously. A counterexample is TCP/IP which got stuck. All users and apps must trust the OS of an ecosystem, much like a religion. If you don’t believe in Windows, go to the MacOS. The problem for the #Web is that there’s only one World-Wide-Web for all of us. OS is sometimes referred as the God Protocol.

Internet before the #Web: Personal Computers (PC). #Web1: Institutions’ Websites; #Web2: Monopolies’ Clouds; #Web3: Personal Cloud Computes (PC2). #Web3 is not a (blockchain) technology, it’s a paradigm shift for all of us.

Have now run my node and got reward distributed, a total of 168 $ELA. Want to donate 100% to @ElastosFeeds using @ElastosInfo tech stack. We need to support #web3 and #Deso. @stiartsly provide addy (mainchain) and I will donate my node rewards 😎 #airdrop #elastos #Bitcoin

Web3 is the second era of PC in disguise. I mean Personal Cloud Compute, PC2, a software defined elastic PC. You own your data and store it on your PC. There is no way around it; you should trust no one but yourself. The current Mastodon app lacks user choices to switch hosting servers. In other words, if I dislike Facebook acting as a big brother, I can turn to my friend John Doe to host my data. However, what if John Doe also becomes another big brother or a bandit down the road? @jack (n/acc)

Web3 is a new Internet, literally Rong Chen, 3/4/2023 #Web3 aims to directly connect individuals with one another. The Internet uses TCP/IP to connect two servers with distinct IP addresses. That means PCs & smartphones are NOT on the Internet until they are first connected to a middleman website or cloud. The Internet Protocol (IP) provides connectionless datagram service. The Internet is inherently decentralized because it can dynamically reroute through IP relay servers. The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) provides connection-oriented, end-to-end service on top of IP protocol. #Nostr endpoints are identified with personal public keys. #Nostr relays provide connectionless services to link data publishers and consumers. At the protocol layer, simple is beautiful. I believe that #Nostr has the potential to become the foundational #Web3 protocol. However, do you see what is missing in the #Nostr #Web3 picture? Just as TCP complements IP in constructing the Internet, the connectionless #Nostr protocol calls for a connection-oriented protocol to deliver data end-to-end. #Elastos Carrier2.0 is emerging at the right time. #DID names are easier to use and remember than public keys. A user may have several data vaults identified with #DID for business, social, and family use. Relays cannot guarantee data integrity & longevity. It'd be challenging for novice users to dynamically manage Relay URLs. It’s clear that #DID short name registration needs a blockchain, eg, the dedicated #Elastos EID chain. Each data vault can have a list of trusted relays (promoters, propagators, social-graphs nodes), which are recorded in the blockchain ledger and cached on #Elastos SuperNodes. We see that most #Nostr use-cases involve connecting relays in parallel. But what if two parties have never met before, and they have no common relays? A routing relay series from party A's vault to party B's vault may be created based on the relay ledger on the blockchain. Finally, if the data publisher and consumer are already friends, they may want to connect directly without #Nostr relays. Like visiting a friend’s home to borrow a book or watch a movie, #Elastos Carrier SDK enables mobile apps to access data vaults on other people’s home PCs. #Web3 is for users to own data. Owning data means you must have a place to store 'em, so you need data vaults, which are endpoints for #Nostr relays to connect, just like #https protocol connects browsers and websites. I sincerely hope that Elastos and Nostr communities can work together to build a new Web3/Web5. For example, Elastos may help to automate the maintenance of relay routing tables, as well as creating personal data vaults addressable with W3C DIDs. Summary: Decentralized #Web3 is a new Internet, literally. It requires both connectionless and connection oriented protocols work in tandem.

SmartWeb is a 3-tier design. The 3rd tier is to run apps in sandboxes, such as JS vm, WASM, i.e., Runtimes. 3rd tier traps into lower 2nd tier. 2nd tier is the Carrier for the SmartWeb OS. 2nd tier traps into lower 1st tier. 1st tier is the device hardware kernel. #elastos
