⚠ Important information for Bitcoin Knots BIP 110 activation client ⚠ HOW TO INSTALL? 1. Stop Bitcoin. 2. Download "bitcoind.s9pk" from the Github Release: 3. In StartOS, navigate to System -> Sideload a Service 4. Upload bitcoind.s9pk WHY DOWNLOAD INSTEAD OF MARKETPLACE? Due to a bug in StartOS 0.3.5.1, services with the same package ID cannot be listed on the same Registry. Core is currently listed on the Start9 Registry. Knots is currently listed on the Community Registry. So Knots BIP 110 has no registry and therefore must be side loaded. This issue is fixed in StartOS 0.4.0, when all three implementations of Bitcoin will be listed on the Start9 Registry. Switching between them will be clear and easy.

⚠ BITCOIN CORE v30.0, PLEASE READ ⚠ HOW TO INSTALL? 1. Stop Bitcoin. 3. Download "bitcoind.s9pk" from the bitcoin-core-startos Github release page. 4. In StartOS, navigate to System -> Sideload a Service 5. Upload bitcoind.s9pk WHY DOWNLOAD INSTEAD OF MARKETPLACE? Knots and Core share the same ID. This allows dependent services, such as lightning, to use either one. It also allows people to switch between them without needing to resync the blockchain. Due to a bug in StartOS 0.3.5.1, if either service goes up in version, it will show as an "update" for the other service. This sucks and has caused people to think StartOS is trying to trick them into switching. To minimize confusion and mistakes, we release new versions of Knots and Core in parallel and require explicit action for switching. Not ideal, but a decent stop gap until StartOS 0.4.0. Because there is no Knots v30.0, listing Core 30.0 on the marketplace would result in Knots users forever seeing Core v30.0 as a "update". As such, we are making Core v30.0 available as a download/sideload instead of listing it on the marketplace.

⚠ PSA, PLEASE READ ALL ⚠ 1. Bitcoin Knots 29.1 AND Bitcoin Core 29.1 are now available on the marketplace 🎉 2. Due to a bug in StartOS 0.3.5.1, we recommend stopping Bitcoin before updating. Otherwise, Bitcoin might get stuck in a "stopping" state. If this happens, the fix is to restart the server. 3. Due to another bug in StartOS 0.3.5.1, after updating Bitcoin, it will temporarily enter a "Needs Config" state. It does not need config. Just wait, it will go away in a few seconds. 4. Due to a bug in StartOS 0.3.5.1, Knots and Core will BOTH display as having an update available in the "Updates" tab. Don't worry, we are not trying to trick you into switching implementations. If you currently have Knots installed, updating to Core will fail. If you currently have Core installed, updating to Knots will fail. 5. To switch from Knots to Core, or from Core to Knots, follow these instructions:

There seems to be some confusion as to what Start9 is/does. Calling us a "node in a box" implies a complete misunderstanding as to what we do. 1. We build StartOS, a free and open source Linux distro optimized for self-hosting. You can download it for free and flash it to most computers. There is zero loss of functionality doing it this way. 2. We sell and warranty quality hardware at a competitive price with StartOS preinstalled as a means if funding development, rather than rely on charity like most open source projects. 3. We provide world class customer support for StartOS, our hardware, and 25+ software applications. 4. We love Bitcoin and express our opinions about it.

In any war, one of the most important and effective strategies is to DEMORALIZE your enemy, to convince them that fighting or continuing to fight is immoral, futile, or harmful. Don't fall for it. The truth is they are weak and terrified of the power of nodes.

My node is my sovereign territory on the Bitcoin network. As is yours. I'll configure it how I want, and you should too. And if many of us want the same thing, our nodes combined become the most powerful force in Bitcoin.

LAST WEEK, THIEVES JUMPED OVER FENCES, SMASHED WINDOWS, AND ENTERED HOMES. IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL THAT WE IMMEDIATELY EMPOWER AN AUTHORITY TO FORCE EVERYONE TO TAKE DOWN THEIR FENCES AND UNLOCK THEIR DOORS, OTHERWISE THIEVES WILL BREAK THEIR LEGS AND WINDOWS WILL GET SMASHED.

Filters work in the same way a tall fence and guard dog works. They can't stop every possible attack, but they deter most and raise the cost of success. We should be adding filters, not removing them. And all filters should be configurable. Power to the nodes.

This talk by @Matt Hill will be titled "Power to the Nodes". It will address the latest controversy around Core/Knots and examine the role of node runners in determining the future of Bitcoin. View quoted note →
