Carrots finally done for the year. The dog never moved from that spot trying to get the odd piece. He loves carrots 🥕. 11 good sized servings survived what we pilfered for meals over the summer.
First session of pulling, washing, peeling, slicing, blanching and vacuum sealing carrots. Two more sessions this size and it’s done. Got about 20lb off a 2’x6” raised bed. And left a few behind for a seed test next year. I’ve never harvested carrot seeds and it’s pretty easy to get a number of years of seed from a few plants in year 2.
I always shake my head when I see Nostr post that is X/Twitter content that is already a screen cap of a video from TikTok. I’ve already blocked all of the TikTok urls and IP addresses I could find at the router.
I got a UPS to back up the power to my fiberoptic modem, router, pc, gaming console and my bitcoin node. It was pretty cool walking up to the wall outlet and yanking the power cord to the UPS and seeing everything still running off battery in less than a tenth of a 60hz cycle. I’ve got three hours of pc usage and wifi in a grid down situation.
Sometimes I wonder if I am just lazy, and that’s why progress on my projects feels so painfully slow. Until I occasionally get some money and some free time. Then I’m reminded of how relentlessly I pursue things when I’m not being held back.
The biggest casualty of rampant inflation and taxation is our dreams, and using them to make the world a better place.
When you imagine the multiplier (in dollar denominationed terms) of your stack by the next halving, and the one after that, what do you envision?
I feel like it’s 5x and 10x
This year’s beets. Vac sealed and ready for the freezer. Not too bad for a 4x4 raised bed. 5 meals of sides in a pinch. I am looking forward to having more garden space but this is good while we are still in a half acre lot in town.
Beet day. 12lb on a 4x4 bed. Not stellar, but not bad. I just have to vacuum seal these tomorrow and they are done. Got a nice feed of baby beets for tonight. And of course the inevitable health scare in the middle of the night tonight when it looks like I’m pissing blood, and forgot I ate a quarter pound of beets lol.
Is the work worth it while the grocery stores are still open? No. Will it be worth it when I can pull them out of the freezer in the middle of winter or in a pinch? Yes.
Carrots, squash, and then pressure canning a hundred pounds of potatoes still to go. Cellaring the other 200lb or so. And trying to get some hunting days in. And a bunch of 50 hour work weeks. Fall is a busy time.
