Just finished reading Cryptonomicon. It's long and has a lot of rabbit holes but is a really good story. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FC11A6/ It included "Mother Earth Motherboard" which was published in Wired Dec 1996. It is the real world version of the above novel.
