Was talking to my oldest backend dev the other night about him *finally* integrating our custom GitNestr CLI operations into the Nestr frontend (a moment that’s been years in the making) and I saw a giant shooting star light up the sky blue. I was floored. Never seen a shooting star turn the whole sky blue like that. 🌠 Sometimes the universe gives you a sign to keep going. I’d like to think so at least :-)

Without standardization, universal interoperability is difficult to achieve. The more polished the protocol, the more cross-compatible apps can be built on it. A protocol that solves the edge cases for people (missing notes, chunked media, paid storage coupled to bandwidth costs from storage & syncing, automated content moderation, etc) makes it a breeze for developers to build new apps that thrive without still relying on centralized infrastructure as a crutch for these unsolved problems (primal’s cache, nostr.build for media, mostly free relays, blind syncing between relays leading to giant nodes, no content moderation leading to porn everywhere, etc). Being proud about staying in a state of technological limbo isn’t going to get us closer to a scalable protocol that covers all the bases. Without facing these hard realities, we’re just telling ourselves a story that isn’t true.
